The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei
hails Iran's capabilities in confronting post-vote events.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has
hailed the 'high capabilities' of the country which helped it 'overcome'
the post-election problems.
"The recent [post-election] issues have placed the country in front of
a determining political test. However, the establishment of the Islamic
Republic given its high capabilities was able to overcome the situation,"
said the Leader in a meeting with university professors and scientific
elites.
The Leader said that Iran enjoys 'different kinds of freedom' within
the Islamic framework.
"Freedom in the Islamic establishment is a true issue defined within an
Islamic framework and the Islamic Republic will never consent to or accept
the false freedom sought by the West," said Ayatollah Khamenei.
The Leader touched upon the responsibilities of different walks of the
country in confronting incidents including post-vote events, saying, "What
is expected of university professors in this struggle is far greater than
that of students."
"Students are the young officers fighting on this front who with their
thoughts, actions and perceptions are present in the scene and who test
the scene and act within its framework but university professors are the
commanders of this soft confrontation."
Ayatollah Khamenei urged the commanders of this front to obtain a good
understanding of the current situation and to identify the enemy, its
objectives and plans.
"A professor who can play this role is a worthy teacher for the present
and future of the Islamic Republic," the Leader said.
The Leader described raising students' abilities to analyze, and
creating an atmosphere of hope and scientific work in universities as
being the most important responsibilities of university professors.
"We must move in the exact opposite direction of the enemy's objectives,
as it [the enemy] seeks to create the atmosphere of desperation in
universities," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The Leader also highlighted the importance of preparing the grounds for
students to express their views.
Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the damage inflicted on people in the
post-vote incidents and said, "All those who have been the victims of the
post-election events must know that the establishment has no intention of
making concessions."
"Just as those individuals who openly confront the establishment are
legally and justly dealt with, legal and just punishment will also be mete
out to the perpetrators of crimes and atrocities."

Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution issued
a message expressing his condolences over the demise of Sayyid Abdul Aziz
al-Hakim. The full text of the message is as follows:
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I received the sad news that the leader of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic
Council Mr. Abdul Aziz al-Hakim has passed way.
This is a great loss for the people of Iraq and the Iraqi government
and also a painful loss for the Islamic Republic of Iran. He was the last
of the late Shia Marja Ayatollah Sayyid Muhsen al-Hakim's children who
were all either martyred in their fight against the blood-thirsty Iraqi
Baath regime and the mercenaries of the global arrogance or went through
difficult tests in this great jihad.
The services of this mujahid clergyman in forming a national government
in Iraqi, both during his stay in Iran and after the collapse of Saddam
Hussein's government, were unique and unforgettable.
I express my deep sorrow over this tragic loss and sincerely offer my
condolences to our Iraqi brothers, the government of Iraq, the Supreme
Iraqi Islamic Council, and the family and brave children of Mr. Abdul Aziz
al-Hakim, particularly his son Mr. Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim. I also pray to
Allah to bestow His mercy and remission on the late Mr. Abdul Aziz
al-Hakim and to bestow honor and progress on the Iraqi government and
people.

Students, scientific and cultural figures, and representatives of
various student associations from different universities met this evening
with Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and
exchanged views about different academic, scientific, social, cultural,
and political issues.
Speaking at the meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei referred to some of the
statements made by the students and said that the dynamic and curious
nature of young university students will guarantee a bright future for the
country, Islam, and the Islamic Ummah. He further stressed: "In spite of
their different names, the faithful student groups are considered the
harbinger of a bright future for Iran and the Islamic Republic."
In response to some of the students who had demanded the trial of the
individuals behind the post-election events, the Supreme Leader of the
Islamic Revolution said: "In the case of highly important matters, we must
not move ahead on the basis of rumors and speculations."
His Eminence said that the Islamic Republic is the outcome of the
Iranian nation's selfless efforts throughout the past thirty years and
added: "Everybody must be sure that no crimes will be ignored. But in the
case of such highly important matters, the judiciary system must base its
judgments on concrete evidence. Even if there is some evidence concerning
the truth of many rumors, such evidence cannot be used as the basis of
judgment."
Ayatollah Khamenei also stressed: "When the Islamic Republic decides to
take macro-level measures, it must take all the relevant aspects into
consideration and avoid a biased view. And if the measures taken so far in
this regard as well as future measures are viewed from this perspective,
all fair individuals will be convinced."
The Supreme Leader referred to the need for a legal investigation into
the raid on the students at Tehran University dormitory as well as the
events in Kahrizak prison, further adding: "Some crimes were committed
during the post-election events, and the individuals involved in these
crimes will definitely be prosecuted."
His Eminence stressed the need for avoiding measures that are taken for
pure publicity purposes regarding the prosecution of the individuals
behind the events at Tehran University dormitory and added: "There is no
need for publicity. Even from the early days, it has been strongly
stressed that - while being careful - decisive legal action has to be
taken to confront such issues."
Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated: "Regarding the events at the Tehran
University dormitory, great crimes have been committed and a special
investigation has been undertaken to punish the perpetrators without
taking their affiliations into account."
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution expressed his gratitude to
the services rendered by the security forces, police, and Basij members,
further reiterating: "These great services must not prevent considering
some of the crimes. And if someone from these organizations has committed
a crime, the case must be legally pursued."
His Eminence stressed the need for legal investigation into the case of
Kahrizak prison and the death of a number of people there and added: "Of
course such issues must not be mixed up with the important post-election
events."
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution also added: "There are
some people who tend to ignore the great oppression and disrespect that
the people and the Islamic Republic suffered after the election. They try
to present the events that happened in Kahrizak prison and the Tehran
University dormitory as the most important issues, but this view is itself
clear oppression."
Ayatollah Khamenei said that the most important issue after the
presidential election was the attempts to tarnish the Islamic Republic's
reputation in the world. "Through its numerous advances in the recent
years, the Islamic Republic had gained a great regional and global
position. The 85 percent turnout rate would have improved this position.
But suddenly a movement was started to annihilate this glorious election,
which I believe had been preplanned."
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution further stressed: "I do
not accuse the leaders of the recent events of being the agents of
foreigners, especially America and England, because this has not been
proven to me. But there is no doubt that it was a calculated move, whether
the leaders of the movement know it or not. Of course the designers of
this plot were not sure whether their plot would be successful or not. But
the activities of some individuals after the election made them so hopeful
that the designers of the plot increased their presence in the scene by
mobilizing all their means and their media and electronic facilities."
Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the failure of this plot and said: "Fortunately,
the enemies still do not understand Iran's affairs and do not know the
Iranian nation. As a result, they received a severe blow from the nation
in the recent events. But they are not yet disappointed and are continuing
their efforts."
Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated that everyone, particularly students who
support Islam and Iran, should be vigilant and added: "Those who planned
the recent events are being led by other people behind the scenes. By
Allah's favor, their efforts will fail, but the vigilance of the people,
particularly the youth, will reduce the harmful effects of such activities
and movements."
Ayatollah Khamenei further referred to the post-election events and
stated: "The events which happened were not unexpected, but we did not
expect those who entered the scene to do so."
Elsewhere in his speech, Ayatollah Khamenei referred to his support for
the president and the administration and stated: "The current
administration and the honorable president have both strengths and
weaknesses, and I only support their strengths."
He further added that any other administration which is as determined
as the current administration and which has the same attitude will enjoy
his support.
Ayatollah Khamenei further added: "Magnifying the weaknesses will
result in disappointment and frustration. And discussing the weaknesses in
a direct manner does not always help solve the problem. Therefore, this
should be done only as a last resort."
Referring to the current threats which the enemies pose to the Iranian
nation and the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Khamenei urged intellectuals,
particularly students, to be vigilant and act on the basis of wisdom and
logic.
He further stated that students are the soldiers of Iran and the
Islamic Republic in their battle against the enemies and the evil movement
which relies on hypocrisy, money, and power.
Elaborating on the reasons behind the enmity of the domineering powers
towards the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the strategic
position of the Islamic Ummah in critical parts of the world and added: "By
relying on its power which is increasing on a daily basis, the Islamic
Republic has stood up against the global domineering powers in this
critical region. Therefore, the huge Zionist network, global companies,
and financial centers which politically lead the US and Europe, consider
this great power of Iran and the Islamic Republic as a threat and try to
oppose it."
Ayatollah Khamenei further referred to the continuous enmity of the
global bullying powers towards the Islamic Republic and stated: "These
plots will only end when Iran reaches such a position - through the
efforts of its youth - in scientific, economic, and security arenas that
it becomes immune to the enemies' threats. Therefore, I have always urged
universities to produce knowledge, because I consider scientific
superiority as an element which will bring about long-term security for
the country."
Ayatollah Khamenei further warned the students about the enemies'
efforts to hinder the scientific progress of Iranian universities and
stated: "Everyone should be vigilant so that these minor political issues
will not affect the scientific progress of universities and research
centers."
Ayatollah Khamenei said that being hopeful about the future will
strengthen the Iranian nation in its battle against the enemies' threats
and added: "Such hope is based on a realistic view of matters, and the
dear students should act logically when dealing with different issues.
They should fulfill their heavy duty in helping the country make progress
as well as in defending the nation against the threats of the greedy
enemies."
At the end of this meeting, the students said their evening and subset
prayers led by Ayatollah Khamenei and broke their fast along with the
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

holding fast to the covenant of God ( "the rope of God" ) , adding that
those who have truly understood the important message of the Holy Quran -
those hearts who have understood the Holy Quran -- will never allow
personal issues to disrupt the national unity of this nation.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Supreme Leader referred to another
important message of the Holy Quran , namely how the faithful and devout
Muslims (Mo'meneen ) should behave in relation to the enemies and friends.
He reminded everyone that according to Quranic teachings, the Faithful
should remain unflinching and uncompromising ( unwavering ) in relation to
the enemies, and conversely, should be kind, gentle and generous towards
friends.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei pointedly added if we let our hearts to
collect the blessed shower of Gods gifts, and mercy , and if our hearts

Quranic messages , and personal issues , power and wealth will not hinder
us from carrying out that which God tells us to do in the Holy Quran.
In further remarks, the Supreme Leader described the verses of the Holy
Quran as "life-giving water". He said we always need the Holy Quran, and
the Quran shows its effects slowly, and over the long term. The Supreme
Leader emphasized that the meaning and depth of the Holy Quran is
infinite, and if we acquaint ourselves with this Holy book, we can "open
up new doors, and untie many knots".

prelude to receiving guidance from this Holy book. He stressed the verses
of the Holy Quran convey a divine message and transform the human heart,
in accordance with these divine verses.
Supreme Leader Meets with
Bashar al-Assad
19/08/2009
Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution met
this evening with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his accompanying
delegation. Speaking at the meeting, His Eminence said that the current
situation of the Middle East is in favor of the resistance camp. "The
resistance camp must use this great opportunity and further strengthen its
relations and cooperation."
He described the unity between Iran and Syria as the manifestation of
resistance in the region and reiterated: "The result of this unity and its
effects are perfectly obvious in the developments in Palestine, Lebanon,
and Iraq as well as the entire region."
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to the concerted
efforts of the arrogant powers to break the regional line of defense and
weaken the resistance camp and added: "These efforts have not been
successful so far, and the influence of the US in the region has grown
weaker on a daily basis."
Ayatollah Khamenei touched on the current problems of the US in Iraq
and said that America has failed to achieve its goals in Iraq, further
reiterating: "In spite of its propaganda campaign, the Zionist regime has
faced numerous internal problems, and it is falling into a genuine decline."
His Eminence said that the new attitude of the US towards the region is
the result of the current situation and added: "This attitude is not due
to an essential difference between the incumbent US President and the
previous US presidents because any other president would have pursued the
same policy in the region."
The Supreme Leader further said that there are vast areas for
cooperation between Iran and Syria. "Compared to other Arab counties, the
most important characteristic of Syria is its resistance. And the enmity
of America and other arrogant powers towards Syria is the result of this
characteristic," he reiterated.
Ayatollah Khamenei later expressed his agreement over the formation of
a unified group composed of Iran, Syria, Turkey, and Iraq and said that
the current relations between Syria and Iraq will produce positive results.
He further stated that the Iraqi government should be helped in solving
the current problems of the country.
In this meeting which was also attended by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Mr.
Bashar al-Assad stressed the need for strategic relations between Iran and
Syria and said that the current situation of the region is in favor of the
resistance camp.
He added: "Western governments, particularly the US, have numerous
problems in their countries as well as in the region and have so far
failed to make any achievements in Lebanon and the region."
He said that cooperation and unity between Iran, Syria, Turkey, and
Iraq in the current situation will bring about positive results in the
region.
The Syrian President further referred to the Iraqi prime minister's
visit to Damascus and said that Syria is ready to cooperate with Iraq.
Mr. Bashar al-Assad further reiterated: "Foreign powers and some of the
countries of the region are trying to cause discord between Shia and Sunni
Muslims in Iraq. And the Iraqi government should be helped to overcome
this problem."
The Syrian President said that the high number of votes for Mr.
Ahmadinejad and his re-election have strengthened the resistance forces of
the region and said: "The failure of the efforts of some western
governments after the recent post-election events in Iran was a great
lesson for those governments. They realized, through the vote of the
Iranian people for Mr. Ahmadinejad, that the people of Iran follow Imam
Khomeini (r.a.) and the path of resistance."

Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei Tuesday morning
in a meeting with Sultan Qaboos, king of Oman and his entourage described
Iran-Oman relations in the past thirty years as good and brotherly, adding
that considering deep religious, geographical and historical bonds between
the two countries, there are a vast ground for bilateral cooperation.
Ayatollah Khamenei touched on the existence of one of the most
sensitive waterways in the world between Iran and Oman, adding that
security leads other issues in Persian Gulf.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the United States and some other
interventionist states have always impeded tranquility in the sensitive
Persian Gulf by infusing insecurity and mistrust in the area.
The IR Leader urged the Persian Gulf littoral states to cooperate with
each other to ensure security in the area more than before.
In the meeting also attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Sultan
Qaboos expressed deep pleasure over his visit to Iran and his meeting with
the IR Leader, adding that the grounds for expansion of relations between
the two countries were ample. He said his talks in Tehran focused namely
on the expansion of ties in economic fields.
The King reaffirmed IR Leader's remarks about the significance of
security in the region and urged the regional countries to provide grounds
for stable security by taking into account common regional interests in
the area expansion of cooperation in this regard.

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By Allah's favor, today is an auspicious day for our nation and our
future. Also, this meeting is very significant. I pray to Allah the
Exalted in supplication to bestow His blessings and grace on the Iranian
nation in this new stage of its life and in this new period of management
which starts from today.
The statements of our esteemed president were appropriate and timely.
It is expected that the subjects he touched on will, by Allah's favor, be
the focus of the efforts in the next four years.
The people's presence and the new form of elections in the Islamic
Republic, which is a novel initiative in the world, are of utmost
importance. It behooves us to further discuss and reflect on the important
matter of religious democracy - that is, the unified presence of the
public, serious competitions, and genuine efforts by the people alongside
divine and Islamic standards. This brilliant combination is exactly what
humanity needs, what humanity is thirsty for.
Before the victory of the Revolution, the public had no role in
decision-making areas. There were only a number of rulers who used to
dominate the people relying on their power and weapons. They used to
impose their rule on the people. And when they died, they used to pass
this divine responsibility to their children, as if it were their personal
possession. The people had no role. The same people who are currently
claiming to support democracy, human rights, and other such things used to
cooperate with the oppressive and tyrannical Pahlavi regime that used
incorrect and inhuman methods to rule. Even when public presence - or at
least, claims of public presence - had a significant role in the
government of some countries, spiritual values were absent.
Public presence, adherence to spirituality, divine teachings, and
submission to Allah are the qualities that make the Islamic Republic
prominent as a novel phenomenon. These two [religious and democratic
aspects] have come together to form a monolithic reality. The discussion
about whether the Islamic or the republican aspect of the Islamic Republic
should have priority over the other is meaningless and irrelevant. The
republican and Islamic aspects are not two separate entities attached
together to form a reality. The republican aspect is at the heart of the
Islamic aspect. Relying on the people and respecting their wish and vote
are at the heart of relying on divine orders. The Islamic Republic is a
unified reality, which is the gift of the Islamic Revolution to the
Iranian nation. The efficiency of this system has been tried and tested
during the last 30 years.
Those who claim to support democracy must clarify to what extent
genuine democracy is practiced by their own governments. Where are public
enthusiasm and heartfelt religious fascination that draw people to the
ballot boxes to fulfill their responsibility? In which part of these
democracies can you see any such thing? This novel system of government is
a gift of Islam to us. Alongside this reality, we must pay attention to
the enormity of the capacities of the Islamic Republic that has been built
on this foundation.
Thirty years have passed since the Revolution. Throughout this time,
about thirty elections have been held. Executive managers, legislative
officials, and municipal managers have all been chosen through an election.
The basic system of government, the Constitution, and the fundamental
management of the country have all been chosen through the vote of the
public. The capacity of this government, one that has its roots in
religious democracy, is very high, and it is far greater than what others
see and infer from outside. Even what is stated without any ulterior
motives, not to mention the views expressed out of spite, is often rooted
in a misunderstanding of the true nature of the Islamic Republic. The
Islamic Republic has had this great capacity since the beginning.
Throughout the past 30 years, during which different political tendencies
developed out of the great capacity of the Islamic Republic, the transfer
of power has taken place peacefully and with respect and kindness. And the
executive positions have been passed on to different people in peace.
There have been various tendencies within the Islamic Republic. Some of
the management systems that came to power in the past thirty years were
not totally consistent with the principles of the Revolution. But the
capacity of the Revolution assimilated these tendencies inside it. This
capacity helped digest these tendencies and the Revolution broadened its
experience and continued its path with more power. The people who wanted
to deal a blow to the Islamic Republic from inside did not succeed. The
Revolution has continued its straight path with increasing power so far.
And all the people within the framework of this establishment, regardless
of their tendencies, have helped increase the capabilities of the Islamic
Republic. This reality must be considered carefully. This great capacity
is the result of the Islamic and republican properties of our government.
It is rooted in religious democracy. That is the secret behind the
permanence of the invulnerability of the Islamic Republic. These Islamic
and republican properties are an integral part of the Islamic Republic,
and by Allah's favor, these properties will be preserved.
This year's presidential election was very important. This election
holds messages for us. It taught us lessons, broadened our experience, and
turned into a means to test us. The election put us to the test. I believe
this election was very auspicious. The messages of this election were very
important.
The first message of the election was that after the passage of 30
years the ability of the Islamic Republic to mobilize national support has
surpassed global norms. There were some people who expected the Islamic
Republic to fall into abeyance. They expected the Islamic Republic to fall
out of favor with the people and lose its ability to mobilize massive
public support. This election showed that the ability of the Islamic
Republic to mobilize support has increased on a daily basis. It showed
that the Islamic Republic has grown more successful in earning the trust
of the general public. That is a very important reality. Some incidental
events may sideline this important reality. The essential reality in this
election was that the Islamic Revolution, the Islamic establishment, is so
appealing, dynamic, and progressive that after the passage of thirty years
it can draw the people to the scene in such large numbers.
Another message of this election and the massive presence of the people
was that there is mutual trust between the Islamic Republic and the people
and that the door is now open to discussions, to different political
tendencies, and to the exchange of ideas. This is a sign of the Islamic
Republic's self-confidence as well as its trust in the people. The people,
too, trusted the Islamic Republic. They went to the polling stations and
cast their votes. If the people did not trust the establishment, there
would be no such public acceptance. Those who claim there is public
distrust are unaware, if not spiteful. What kind of trust is more valuable
than entering the arena of the elections, trusting the government with
one's votes, and waiting for the government to announce the results? That
shows the people's trust.
By Allah's grace, there is public trust, and we expect the officials
working in different parts of the government to constantly increase this
trust through their behavior. Public trust is the main asset of the
Islamic Republic.
The existence of hope and dynamism among the people was another message
of the election. Of course this is something natural in our society and
country because the majority of our population is young, and the youth are
the embodiment of dynamism and hope. They entered the arena with hope -
hope for the future. A depressed and hopeless person would not enter the
arena of elections. The presence of the people and the youth is a sign of
their hope.
This election also broadened our experience. The election was an
experience for our nation and officials, and I would like to stress that
we must all take this experience seriously. All government officials and
all ordinary citizens must take this experience seriously. The experience
taught us that there is always a chance that the enemies of Iran and the
Revolution may deal a blow to us, even in the best conditions. We must
always pay attention to the fact the enemy is lying in ambush. It is
dangerous to ignore the possibility that the enemy may thwart the national
movement of the Iranian nation. Be vigilant. This is the same advice that
has been quoted from Imam Ali (a.s.) in Nahjul Balaghah: "And when you
fall asleep, the enemy will not fall asleep." We must not fall asleep in
the arena of political life. We must not fall asleep in our strongholds.
If you fall asleep, you must know that the enemy may stay awake.
What I am saying is not only an analysis. This is what we have been
informed about. The enemies of the Islamic Republic tried to cause trouble
for the people in the free atmosphere which the Islamic Republic had
created for the people. They spent money, set up different media, and made
use of various means to turn this great occasion - which was considered an
Eid and a great national celebration for the Iranian nation - into a
situation that was against the interests of the Iranian nation. All of us
- all the people - should consider this experience as a warning. If we
suspect each other in our political and social interactions and consider
each other as enemies, our enemy will be provided with an opportunity. If
we act without thinking and foresight and forget that there are enemies
lying in ambush seeking to deal a blow to the Revolution, we will suffer.
This was an experience for us.
The 85 percent voter turnout, with the presence of 40 million people in
the elections, has been unprecedented since the beginning of the
Revolution. This was the first time that this happened. But during this
great opportunity and great celebration, there were people who tried to
deal a blow to the Iranian nation. We should be vigilant. Such vigilance
is not limited to words only. All the people, different political groups,
and those who pursue the interests of the country and the Islamic Republic
should be vigilant in the true sense of the word. They should be careful
not to be deceived.
There were people who were preparing the ground to use the presidential
election as an opportunity to deal a blow to the Iranian nation.
Fortunately, the Iranian people were vigilant and they still are. They
created doubts in our people's minds and soured this victory for the
people to some extent. But they could not achieve their goal. This was due
to the vigilance of you people. This was an experience for us which made
us understand that the enemies are lying in ambush, seeking to deal a blow
to us.
In my opinion, our enemies also gained experience from what happened
during the election. If they have not gained any experience, they should
do so. The enemies should understand the reality that they are currently
faced with. They should not make any mistakes in understanding the Islamic
Republic and the Islamic Revolution. They should not think that they can
bring the Islamic Republic and the Islamic Revolution to their knees
through such superficial acts. The Islamic Republic will continue to
survive. They should not think that they can deal a blow to the Revolution
and the Islamic Republic through a poor imitation of the great presence of
the people in the 1979 Revolution, a caricature of that Revolution. The
enemies should have learned such a lesson by now. They should not make a
mistake. The Islamic Republic will not be defeated through such words.
The greatness of the Revolution and the Islamic Republic and the firm
roots of the Islamic Republic became more evident to the enemies during
the events which happened in the past two months. The Iranian nation is a
faithful, vigilant, and talented nation. False appearances cannot be used
as a tool to overcome the Iranian nation. There were such instances in our
history: "And those who built a mosque to cause harm (to Islam) and (to
help) disbelief, and to cause disunion among the believers, and a refuge
for him who made war against Allah and His Messenger before." [The Holy
Quran, 9: 107] These people cannot be deceived through imitating the great
Founder of the Revolution - our magnanimous Imam - whose heart and soul
were immersed in the Holy Quran. The people's hearts are enlightened by
the light of their faith. The people are vigilant. Our youth are vigilant.
This is an experience for the enemies.
There were also some tests during the election. First, there was a test
for the people. The people emerged victorious out of this test. The great
turnout was a great test which brought glory to our people. Many of the
people and political groups acted according to their duties. Of course
some of the intellectuals failed in this test. There were some people who
failed in this test after the election. Although the youth are vigilant
and they usually enter the scene in a moral and sincere fashion, some of
them made mistakes in some cases. Of course many of our youth acted
appropriately through their faith and sincerity. They voted for the
candidate they believed in. Whether their candidate was elected or not is
not the criterion. What matters is that one should enter this political
scene vigilantly to fulfill one's duty after identifying a qualified
candidate. After that, everyone should surrender to the law. The majority
of our nation - our youth, elites, and people - is in this group, the
group that emerged victorious out of this great test. Of course there were
also some people who were deceived.
There was also a test for the officials of the country. They should
appreciate this opportunity. The honorable president-elect who has been
appointed to this important post through the record turnout of the people
should appreciate this opportunity and thank God for it. Those who are in
the cabinet should also appreciate this opportunity. They should
appreciate Islam, their faith, and the light which has enlightened the
people's hearts and caused them to enter the scene. Appreciating the
Revolution necessitates that government officials use all their capacities
and do their best to render services to the people and help the country
move towards achieving the goals of the Revolution.
The points which were mentioned by the honorable president are good
ones. These plans should be pursued through appropriate planning. I advise
the administration officials to pay attention to the role of planning in
what they do. Appropriate planning will help the people form an optimistic
view of what will happen in the future and be able to make judgments about
the progress of the country. Reliance on planning and the law, and
cooperation among the three government branches are among your main duties
and part of your gratitude to God. This is part of our great duty to thank
God. We should thank Allah the Exalted.
God Almighty creates such opportunities for us. He bestows these
blessings on us. Thanking God cannot be done through words only.
Fulfilling the duties which lie on the shoulders of the officials is the
practical way of thanking God. Some of the requirements of fulfilling this
duty are cooperation among the three government branches and mutual
cooperation between the Majlis and the administration. The judiciary
should also help the administration. The administration and the president
belong to all those who took part in the election. This should be
manifested practically and be taken into account in all future planning.
Of course there are two other groups besides those who support the
honorable president. The honorable president has many supporters inside
and even outside the country. These two groups should also be taken into
account. First, there is an angry and wounded group that will continue to
oppose the administration during the next four years. This group will
continue to oppose the administration. However, there is another group of
people who are part of the Islamic Republic. There is no enmity between
them and the president or the Islamic Republic. They may be critical of
the administration. These critics should be taken into account. Their
views should be considered and whatever is acceptable should be accepted.
I hope this is how the administration will act.
The people are all bothers. The officials should help those who
suffered during the recent events - whether financially or physically -
and the people whose reputation was tarnished. Those who suffered in the
recent events should be supported. Those who caused the people to suffer
should be identified and prosecuted, no matter who they are.
Our country enjoys various resources. It has various needs and has
great goals ahead of it. We have great resources - natural, mineral, and,
most importantly, human resources. The human resources of our country are
above the global average. These are great resources. Of course we have
many needs too. We suffer from persistent backwardness in some cases. We
must compensate for such backwardness in all areas - in scientific,
technical, social, and cultural areas. This requires making efforts and
taking measures.
Thankfully, the administration officials and the honorable president
are hardworking. The people have realized this fact and felt it. One of
the reasons for the high number of votes for the current president is
undoubtedly the tireless efforts of the 9th administration and the
honorable president. This should continue. Those resources should make up
for the gaps. We need to do great things in the country. Everyone should
help if we are to achieve these goals. The different political tendencies
should be put aside. When an administration is formed and enters the scene,
everyone should help, whether they have the same political tendencies as
the administration officials or not, or whether they have criticisms
against the administration or not. The executive branch shoulders the
heaviest responsibility in the country. Everyone should contribute so that
the goals will be achieved.
Hopefully, the officials and the people will benefit from the prayers
of the Imam of the Age - may our souls be sacrificed for his sake. This
meeting is being held on the eve of the auspicious birth anniversary of
that great Imam, and due to this coincidence the prayers of Imam Mahdi (a.s.)
will be particularly auspicious for the government officials and the
people. I hope the immaculate soul of Imam Khomeini and the honorable
martyrs of the Revolution will pray for the Iranian nation. I hope their
immaculate souls will be pleased with us all.
Greetings be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings
