As Iran continues its efforts to cope with post-election unrest, Leader
of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the country
will deal with the crisis under the law while relying on national unity.
The Leader said Sunday that legal measures were the only solution to
the issues that the country has been facing since the 10th presidential
elections on June 12.
“The people's emotions, especially that of the youth, must not be toyed
with and they should not be pitted against one another as the Iranian
nation, regardless of the differences of opinion, is a united nation that
has good relations with the [Islamic] establishment.”
Ayatollah Khamenei went on to urge political parties not to play with
one another's feelings and said, “If the nation and political elite are
united in heart and mind, the incitement of international traitors and
oppressive politicians will be ineffective.”
The Leader's remarks came after certain European countries and the US
condemned the measures taken by the Tehran government to restore stability
in the country following the election, which saw incumbent President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad win by a landslide.
“They express their opinions about Iran in a manner that one would
think all their other problems have been resolved and only the Iranian
problem remains,” said Ayatollah Khamenei.
“However, what they do not understand is that wherever they politically
set foot in becomes tainted in the eyes of the Iranian nation.”
“Their support will only have a negative effect as the Iranian nation
knows during the eight-year sacred defense [the Iraq-Iran war] when their
homes were bombarded and destroyed by missiles and chemical weapons were
used against them, these governments showed no concern and [instead] aided
the enemy of the Iranian nation.”
Pointing to the crimes committed by the US and certain European
countries against the people of Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Palestine,
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that their “concern and show of
humanitarianism is not befitting of these governments and when they voice
support for the Iranian nation and certain figures, their intentions are
clear and the people are well aware of them.”

Amid protests in the aftermath of Iran's presidential election, the
Leader of the Islamic Revolution says the Islamic establishment will never
yield to pressure.
In a Wednesday meeting with high-ranking parliamentarians in Tehran,
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that the country's affairs must be
handled based on the law of the land as well as the principles of the
Islamic Revolution.
The Leader stressed the importance of the execution of law and
restoration of order in the country, adding that violation of the law
would lead to dictatorship.
"On the current situation regarding the presidential election, I insist
on the implementation of the law. That means we will not take a single
step beyond the law. For sure, neither the system nor the people will give
in to pressure at any price."
Ayatollah Khamenei went on to urge parliament officials to fully
cooperate with the government in the administration of the country.
Pointing to the complicated responsibilities of executive bodies,
Ayatollah Khamenei said the Parliament (Majlis) "should help the
government in such a rough journey and must not be too hard on the
administration."
TEHRAN, June 19 (MNA) - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has said all four presidential candidates
belong to the Islamic system and thus all pursue their complaints through
legal channels.
He made the remarks in his sermons delivered at Friday prayers in
Tehran. The Leader stated that the presidential election’s ‘unprecedented’
turnout of almost 85 percent hit the enemy like a ‘political earthquake’
and became a cause for a ‘real celebration’ for the friends of the country.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the high turnout in the election, in which
about 40 million Iranians cast ballots, was a great manifestation of the
people’s solidarity with the Islamic establishment. He went on to say that
the June 12 presidential election showed that the Iranian nation has a
‘common sense of responsibility’ to determine the destiny of the country.
All those who took part in the election proved their ‘political
consciousness and commitment’ to the Islamic establishment to the entire
world, he added. “The Islamic Republic of Iran will by no means betray the
votes of the nation,” he asserted.
However, Ayatollah Khamenei maintained that the Guardian Council, the
body tasked with overseeing the election, would look into the complaints
of the candidates who are unhappy about the election results. The Leader
stated that the establishment would never give in to illegal demands and
urged all presidential candidates to pursue their complaints through legal
channels. He also called on the people to halt the illegal street
demonstrations over the election results. Following the announcement of
the outcome of the election, supporters of the defeated candidate
Mir-Hossein Mousavi -- who has rejected the election results -- took to
the streets of Tehran and other cities in daily rallies. “It must be
determined at the ballot box what the people want and what they don''t
want, not in the streets,” he said.
The Leader also urged all presidential candidates to be vigilant in the
face of enemy plots to sow the seeds of discord in the nation. Ayatollah
Khamenei stated that the enemies are trying to undermine the people’s
trust in the establishment. The Leader also warned about foreign media
outlets’ efforts to destabilize the country and blamed Britain in
particular. On June 12, President Ahmadinejad was reelected president with
almost 25 million votes, which was over 60 percent of the vote. His three
challengers were Mir-Hossein Mousavi, Mahdi Karroubi, and Mohsen Rezaii.
The Leader said the time is over for rivalry and stated that everyone
should unite and line up behind the president-elect. He stated that the
election was fair and ruled out any allegations of fraud in the
presidential election, insisting that the Islamic system does not “cheat”
voters. “Iran’s laws do not allow vote rigging, especially at the level of
11 million,” he said, referring to Ahmadinejad''s victory margin. “If the
difference was 100,000 or 500,000 or 1 million, well, one may say fraud
could have happened. But how can one rig 11 million votes?” Ayatollah
Khamenei asked. The Leader said the only way to resolve the complaints is
through “legal channels”, adding, “I will not surrender to illegal
precedents.” “If the legal framework is broken today, no election will be
trusted in the future,” he added. Ayatollah Khamenei also stated that all
groupings should refrain from going to extremes. “If the political elites
violate the law, unintentionally or on purpose, they are responsible for
the bloodshed, aggression, and chaos.”
In a reference to the presidential debates, in which the incumbent
president accused the families of Expediency Council Chairman Akbar
Hashemi Rafsanjani and former parliament speaker Ali-Akbar Nateq-Nouri of
financial corruption, the Leader said, “Concerning relatives of these
individuals or others, whoever has any case to raise, he should just
pursue those cases through legal channels. Without proving anything,
nothing should be mentioned. As long as an accusation is not proven, there
is no difference between individuals and nobody should then be accused.”

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution has described the 'unprecedented'
turnout of almost 85% in the election as a 'political quake' for the enemy.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said high turnout in the election, which

people -- Ayatollah Khamenei said that last Friday's election indicated a

Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution says vandalizing public property is
not related to presidential candidates or their supporters.
"Some people are against the unity of the Iranian nation and the
solidarity of the Islamic system," Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said in a
meeting with representatives from the four candidates in Iran's
presidential election and officials from the Guardian Council and the
Interior Ministry.
"Such acts and vandalism and some crimes that were committed are not
related to the candidates' supporters but to disturbers of peace and all
should stand against them," the Leader said.
Ayatollah Khamenei said all candidates are backing the principles of
the Islamic Republic and support peace in the country and the election
should not cause divisions.
The Leader called on all political figures to take a clear position
against the post-election violence and urged the Iranian nation to
withstand those committing crimes in the streets.
"If the election result had been other than this, such incidents would
have occurred nonetheless," he said.
Ayatollah Khamenei said a recount of the vote could be held, should the
investigations show such a measure is required.
The Leader said any recount must be done in the presence of
representatives of the presidential candidates so that everybody is
assured.
"Those in charge of supervising the elections are always trustworthy
people, but this should not prevent an investigation into possible
problems and clarifying the truth," Ayatollah Khamenei concluded.

divine miracle (miracle from God). In a speech in Tehran on Sunday morning,
on the occasion of the auspicious birthday anniversary of Hazrat Fatimeh
Zahra (Peace be upon her ), the daughter of the Holy Prophet of Islam
Prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon him and his progeny), the Supreme Leader
referred to the unprecedented and glorious presence of the Iranian nation
in the 10th presidential elections, saying the aware, vigilant and
far-sighted Iranian nation proved in this great epic elections that they
follow the path, words and values of the late Imam Khomeini ( may his soul
rest in peace), seeking prosperity and advancement by following his path
and values.
In further comments, the Supreme Leader stressed that the 10th
presidential election was very good, blessed and auspicious. He added: "The
Iranian people, with their extremely high turnout, massive participation
and vibrant presence at the ballot box, proved that they want to see a
dignified nation , and that they stand up to the excessive demands of the
bullying powers, and that they insist on their legitimate rights". The
Supreme Leader said the elections that took place clearly showed this.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei pointed to
enemy efforts to discourage the Iranian people from taking part in the
presidential elections, through broadcasts and negative campaigns by
foreign media, and he also referred to psychological warfare by the
enemies. The Supreme Leader pointedly added: "Truly a divine miracle and
the hand of God was behind these elections, since the presidential
election on 12th June broke all previous records, with an extra 10 million
people casting their votes compared to even the highest turnouts we have
had in previous elections for the past 30 years".
Referring to Hazrat Fatimeh Zahra (Peace be upon her ), as the source
of all alms and blessings, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the birthday
of the Holy Prophet's daughter is extremely important , adding that the
birthday anniversary of Hazrat Fatimeh Zahra (Peace be upon her ), is
really the birth anniversary of "Velayat" ( rule of supreme jurisprudence),
because the children of Hazrat Fatimeh (Peace be upon her ) are the Imams
(PBUT) who guided the Islamic Ummah to prosperity and salvation.
Emphasizing unity and solidarity among Shiite and Sunni Muslims, the
Supreme Leader referred to Imam Khomeini's insistence on unity and
brotherhood between all Muslims. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the
late Imam was very astute, and he knew very well that the enemy,
particularly the British, wanted to divide and fuel differences between
Shiites and Sunnis, pitting Muslims against one another.
Elsewhere in his remarks the Supreme Leader said today Islamic Iran has
raised the flag of Islamic glory, and the heart of every Muslim will beat
faster when he looks at this flag, making them feel proud.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei praises
the 10th presidential election as a 'real feast'.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution has hailed the high voter turnout
in Iran, calling on the entire nation to support the president-elect in
achieving his mandate.
Speaking one day after Super Friday when more than 32 million people
cast their votes in the country's 10th presidential election, Ayatollah
Seyyed Ali Khamenei congratulated the nation on their massive turnout.
"The participation of over 80 percent of Iranians at the polls and the
24-million votes cast is a cause for true celebration and god willing this
will ensure the continuation of the country's progress and the maintenance
of national security," Ayatollah Khamenei said in statement.
Friday's election witnessed incumbent Iranian President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad win 24.5 million of the votes -- nearly 62 percent.
Mir-Hossein Moussavi came second with 13.2 million votes, followed by
Mohsen Rezaei with more than 630 thousand votes and Mehdi Karroubi with
320 thousand votes.
"The spirit of calm presented by the nation, in the face of enemy
propaganda and the nation's mass participation was such that makes it
indescribable in words," the Leader added.
The president-elect is the president of the entire Iranian nation and
even those who were his rivals yesterday must now support and aid him, as
this is a divine test for us all, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Leader: Nation faces
another major test
Tehran, June 12, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution
Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Friday that the Iranian nation is
participating in another major examination.
Talking to reporters after casting his votes, the Supreme Leader
expressed satisfaction over the participation of four candidates in the
presidential elections.
Ayatollah Khamenei underscored the need for massive turnouts in polling
stations to thwart the enemies' conspiracies.
The Supreme Leader also expressed satisfaction over the presence of the
Iranian nation in all scenes, stressing that such a presence would
indicate maturity of the people.
Underlining the need for soundness and security of the elections, the
Ayatollah said the people would not let the ill-wishers to create any
tension.
Voting for the 10th presidential elections began all over the country
at 08:00 hours local time (0330 GMT) Friday.
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Leader of the Islamic Revolution calls for a massive
turnout and the election of the 'best and most competent' person to head
the country.
Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei made the remarks after casting his ballot
in the presidential election just after polls opened across Iran on Friday
morning.
The Leader described elections as "manifestations of the active and
dynamic" presence of the people in the political arena of the country,
press tv reported.
"I call on all Iranians to exercise their right by casting their votes
and to play their role in determining the highest level of the country's
management, which is their religious and rational duty," said the Leader.
Pointing to the recent flood of SMS messages spreading rumors, he said,
"People should not pay attention to rumors," and dismissed certain SMS
comments attributed to him as "utter lies."
He has kept his preference for a candidate completely private and has
made no formal or informal announcement in this regard.
The Leader added that vigilance, development and intellectual maturity
of the Iranian people had prevented unfortunate incidents during the
election campaign by supporters of the rival presidential hopefuls in
recent days and nights.
"Security of elections is very important. All elections held over the
past 30 years enjoyed security. This is a great blessing," Ayatollah
Khamenei concluded.
Polls opened at 8:00 am (0330 GMT) in a closely-contested presidential
election which has generated intense excitement among the electorate as
never before, resulting in long lines of voters forming outside polling
stations from early morning.
In addition to the incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who is
seeking a second four-year term, Super Friday's vote includes former prime
minister Mir-Hossein Mousavi, former parliament speaker Mehdi Karroubi and
Secretary of the Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaie.
Over 46 million Iranians aged 18 and above are eligible to vote in the
polls, the 10th presidential election since the Islamic Revolution in 1979
deposed a US-backed monarchy.
Results are expected to be announced 24 hours after polls close.

helped the world Muslims restore their real identity and glory.
Ayatollah Khamenei added, the efforts practiced by the Muslim nations
to establish an Islamic system, re-illumination of hope among the pundits
in the Islamic world, and witnessing a big change in the bullying tone of
the West toward the Muslims all are the munificence and outcome of public
awareness and resistance throughout the world of Islam.
The Supreme Leader said the two consecutive Palestinian Intifadas (uprisings)
which dealt destructive blows to the Zionist regime, the withdrawal of the
Zionist occupying forces from Lebanon and their humiliating defeats in the
33-day war in Lebanon in the summer of 2006 and also in the 22-day war in
Gaza, all were the fruits of the Islamic awareness inspired by the late
Imam.
On the West's new approach toward Muslims and the new US government's
efforts to portray a new picture of themselves, he reiterated that it is
not possible to bring about changes through speeches and slogans but they
should take practical steps and compensate all their mistakes and
wrongdoings in connection with the Iranian nation as well as the entire
region.
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali
Khamenei, further pointed to the US obstructionism vis-à-vis Iran's
peaceful nuclear activities, and said in dealing with this legitimate
right of the Iranian nation to gain access to nuclear technology for
peaceful purposes the Americans are now telling lies and trying to hide
realities, while baselessly accusing the Iranian nation of attempting to
build nuclear bombs.
This is while, the leader reiterated, the Iranian people and officials
have declared on several occasions that the nuclear weapon is religiously
haram (forbidden) in Islam and has no place in the country's defensive
doctrine.
More than 1.5 million senior Iranian officials and people from all
walks of life along with more than 800 foreign dignitaries convened on
Thursday, June 4, 2009, at the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini (may his soul
rest in peace) to commemorate the tragic departure and also to renew their

Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei Monday morning
in a meeting with members of the committee of holding commemoration
ceremonies for the 20th demise anniversary of Imam Khomeini said that the
late Imam was symbol of Islam and key to independence, dignity and unity
of Iran, adding that the precious heritage of Imam must be preserved by
all means and his memory must be kept alive as a divine blessing.
The IR Leader said that it was a sign of greatness of Imam Khomeini's
personality that despite the passage of many years from his demise, new
dimensions of his personality are being understood now.
"The great architect of the Islamic Revolution was so competent that
God manifested His blessing and will through him and Imam became the most
important means to materialize the great miracle of God which was the
Islamic Revolution," the IR Leader said.
Ayatollah Khamenei said Imam was the bright center of unity of nation
so that even his opponents respected him in mind and appreciated his
greatness.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the Imam turned into symbol of Islam through
reliance on Islam, adding even after twenty years from the demise of Imam,
the Iranian nation and the Muslim world continue to consider him as symbol
of Islam.
The IR Leader said the deep and heartfelt affection of the Iranian
nation to Imam has helped his thoughts to dominate other thoughts in
society, adding that it was a notable reality that all political
inclinations even those which do not believe in some of Imam's thoughts
introduce themselves as supporters of Imam because they know that for the
Iranian people on whose votes the Islamic system is based, it is a value
to support Imam.
Ayatollah Khamenei then said that the nations and world intellectuals
support Imam Khomeini because the principles of his thoughts had been
taken from true Islam, adding that Imam Khomeini without any reservations
stated the principles of true Islam in a prideful manner..
The IR Leader considered Imam Khomeini as true symbol of independence
and national unity, adding that God has created and trained his pious
servant in a way that without any shame he stood against the aggression of
political bullies of the world and against the flood of their accusations
that the principles are fundamentalist, he defended the true Islam in a
prideful manner and for the same reason he turned into the symbol of
dignity of the Iranian nation.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that the unity of Iranian people of different
religious, ethnic or political groups showed the capacity of Imam Khomeini
to create unity in the country. He then warned that some are trying to
destroy the blessed unity.
Pointing to Zahedan bombing, Ayatollah Khamenei said that following the
incident the enemies tried to disturb the situation. He urged people to be
vigilant and do not allow the dreams of enemies of independence and
progress of the country to be fulfilled. Ayatollah Khamenei added however
that the people are vigilant and would take decision through their special
understanding.
Ayatollah Khamenei urged all Iranian people of different religious,
ethnic or political groups to preserve and consolidate their national
unity as the precious heritage of Imam Khomeini.
