Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei issued a
statement Sunday on the horrendous tragedy of Gaza bloodbath in the hand
of the Zionists, strongly condemning the heinous complicity of the
criminal Bush's regime with the Zionists, adding that the silence of some
international bodies and some Arab states provided for the crimes.
Ayatollah Khamenei declared Monday as day of general mourning and
called on all Muslim people and free men of the world to render their duty
towards the tragic issue. The text of the statement is as follows.
Bismillah-e Rahman-e Rahim
"We belong to Allah, and to Him we return"
The horrific atrocity of the Zionist regime in Gaza in which hundreds
of innocent men, women and children were massacred pushed the curtain of
deception from the blood thirsty face of the Zionist wolves and noted the
negligent about the presence of this hostile disbeliever in the heart of
the lands of Islamic umma.
The horrendous ordeal is very heavy and moving for any Muslim not to
say for any free and noble human being in any corner of the world. However,
the larger ordeal is the encouraging silence of some Arab governments
which claim to be Muslims. Which ordeal could be larger than the fact that
Muslim governments, otherwise expected to support the innocent Gaza people
against the usurping and hostile regime, adopted a mood which encouraged
the criminal Zionist authorities to impertinently consider them as in
harmony with the large tragedy?
Which answer the heads of those countries have prepared to give to the
Messenger of Allah (S.A.)? Which answer they have prepared to give to
their own nations which are indeed mourning the tragedy? Indeed today the
heart of the Egyptian, Jordanian and the people of other Islamic countries
is overwhelmed with sorrow about the bloodshed as well as the protracted
food and medicine embargos.
By his complicity in the large crime, the criminal Bush's
administration in the last days of his shameful rule more darkened the
face of the American regime than ever and added to its dossier of war
crimes. The European governments with their indifference and sometimes
their complicity in the large tragedy once more proved that their claims
of advocacy for human rights are false and also showed they are present in
the front against Islam and Muslims. Now, I ask the scholars and Alims of
the Arab world and the chiefs of the Egyptian al-Azhar center "isn't it
the time to feel the threat facing Islam and Muslims?" "Isn't it the time
to fulfill the mandatory act of standing against any bullying ruler?" Is
an additional, more divulging scene of complicity between the hostile
disbelievers and the hypocrites of umma in repressing the Muslims than the
current Gaza and Palestine developments is needed to prompt you to feel
responsibility?
I have also a question to ask the media and the intellectuals of the
world of Islam and especially the Arab world. For how long you have
decided to remain indifferent regarding your media and intellectual
responsibility?
Has there remained any more face for the scandal-hit human rights
bodies of the west and the so-called 'security' council of the United
Nations to lose?
All the Palestinian Mujahid and other faithful of the world of Islam
are supposed to defend the defenseless people of Gaza. Anyone who is
killed in the legitimate and holy defense is a martyr and is hoped to be
among the ranks of the martyrs of Badr and Ohud battles in the presence of
the Messenger of Allah (S.A.).
The Organization of the Islamic Conference must fulfill its historical
responsibility in the sensitive conditions and form a solid front, bereft
of inaction and preservations, against the Zionist regime. The Zionist
regime must be punished by the Muslim governments. The heads of the
usurping regime must be tried and punished in person for their crimes and
the protracted siege.
The Muslim nations are able to materialize the demands through firm
resolve. The duty of politicians, Alims and intellectuals in this juncture
is much heavier than others.
I declare Monday a day of general mourning in commemoration of the Gaza
tragedy and instruct the country's authorities to fulfill their duties
regarding the sad incident.
"And those who do wrong shall surely know by what overturning they will
he overturned"

Leader warns against
efforts to create discord between Shia, Sunni Muslims
Tehran, Dec 17, IRNA
Supreme Leader-Remarks
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei
said the world arrogant powers which have sustained a loss due to the
unity of all Muslims and their interest in the Islamic Revolution, are
trying to aggravate religious dogmatism to create disunity between the
Shia and Sunni Muslims.
Ayatollah Khamenei was addressing thousands of people who met the
supreme leader on the occasion of Eid-al Ghadir (Ghadir Feast).
The day marks a historical event in which the Grand Prophet of Islam (PBUH),
in a place near Mecca called 'Ghadirkhum' declared his cousin and
son-in-law, Imam Ali, (AS) as his successor.
Expounding on the importance of the issue of 'government' in Islam,
Ayatollah Khamenei said the big lesson and message of 'Ghadir' is showing
a model of Islamic government, adding the Shia Muslims, while keeping
their 'logical and brilliant beliefs' on the Ghadir event, won't let these
beliefs be a 'cause for difference and discord' in the Muslim world.
Referring to the incessant efforts of the founder of the Islamic
Revolution Imam Khomeini and the Islamic Republic for preventing
difference among the world Muslims, Ayatollah Khamenei said everyone
should be aware of the dangerous plot of the arrogant powers for creating
disunity.
Congratulating the Iranian nation and all Muslims of the world,
Ayatollah Khamenei said," Understanding the message of 'Ghadir' well, gets
the Islamic Ummah to move in the right way."
"The important issue of announcing Imam Ali as his successor by the
Grand Prophet of Islam, in fact, shows the importance of the issue of
government and the unity of religion and politics in Islam and this big
lesson is the great need of all Muslims today."
"Introducing a personality like Imam Ali (AS) as the successor of the
Grand Prophet of Islam shows that Ghadir is not just a historical event
but a way to express the required criteria for running the Islamic
societies and all human beings."
"Ghadir teaches us that the Islamic societies should be run by those
who consider Imam Ali as a model and this important issue is among the new
messages of Islam and the Islamic Republic to the world," the Ayatollah
said.
Stressing the necessity of being vigilant against the plots of making
disunity between the Shia and Sunni Muslims, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "Deep
belief in the leadership of Imam Ali after the Grand Prophet of Islam is
the basic principle of Shia and the Shia Muslims will keep this belief but
they won't let it be a source of difference in the Muslim world."
Referring to what the enemies of Islam do to make disunity among
Muslims, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "We have known for a long time that a
center affiliated with the world arrogance has been paying the money for
publication of books containing false accusations and abusive language
against Shia and Sunni Muslims. Is this not a dangerous and warning fact?"
Ayatollah Khamenei said publication of such books is helping the
realization of US and Israel objectives.
He urged the authors to write books containing solid and logical
reasons, such as those written by the Shia scholars in the course of
history.
Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the efforts made by certain forces to
make some Arab leaders confront the nuclear rights of Iran and some other
demands of Iranian nation and said this is the most that the enemy can do
but these Arab states have their own 'reservations' and are not ready to
be fully in the service of US and the Zionists to confront Iran.
Ayatollah Khamenei concluded the world arrogant powers may hatch any
kind of plot, but if the Iranian nation and other Muslim nations are aware,
the hegemonic powers won't be able to materialize their hostile objectives
in weakening the Islamic Ummah.
Supreme Leader: Students
play vital role in society
Tehran, Dec 14, IRNA
Iran-Supreme Leader-Students
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei
said on Sunday that "If the nation and officials observe a correct
criteria to preserve their Islamic identity, the enemies will not be able
to harm the country." The Supreme Leader made the remark in a meeting with
a group of university students during his visit to the University of
Science and Technology (Elm-o San'at) in east Tehran on Sunday.
University is a place for acquiring science, conducting research and
promoting national aspiration, said Ayatollah Khamenei.
University students are among the country's invaluable assets who play
a vital role in the society at present and in the future, pointed out the
Supreme Leader.
Ayatollah Khamenei urged university students to constantly augment
their scientific knowledge in order to make good on the country's
scientific backwardness.
Recent scientific achievements in various fields namely in nano-
technology, medicine and nuclear energy indicate the high talent of the
Iranian youth and their ability to turn the country into a model in the
world, said Ayatollah Khamenei.
University students have always stood up against global hegemony,
oppression, dictatorship and despotism and spared no efforts to administer
justice in the society, the Supreme Leader said.
Three university students attained martyrdom in an anti-US
demonstration on December 7, 1953 which proved that the students were
against global hegemony, Ayatollah Khamenei said, adding that the then
students movement joined another movement led by religious leaders in 1963
and this led to the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979.
University students played a key role in formation of IRGC and
Construction Jihad in the early stages of Islamic Revolution in Iran which
proves their importance to this effect, said Ayatollah Khamenei.
University students also played an active role in various fields such
as campaign against terrorist groups, seizure of the US Embassy which had
been turned into a den of espionage, formation of University Jihad, and
participation in the eight years of Sacred Defense (1980-1988 war with
Iraq), said the Supreme Leader.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that university students are against tyranny
and seek to promote the aspirations of the Islamic Revolution and are
seriously opposed to those violating the rights of others in Palestine,
Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere in the world.
Political groups and wings seek to seize power but university students
only seek to promote their national aspirations; therefore it is not fair
for political groups try to misuse university students to attain their
goals, underlined the Supreme Leader.
University establishments should help other students not to be deceived
by political ploys and instead help them maintain their national unity and
play an active role in the campaign against foreign aggressors, said
Ayatollah Khamenei.
"There is no doubt that only an Islamic and religious movement could
topple the monarchical system in Iran which was backed by the United
States of America," said the Supreme Leader.
The late Imam Khomeini was the only leader who could lead the Islamic
Revolution to victory, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The Supreme Leader said that the Islamic Revolution has its own
principles and redlines and this explains why it has been the target of
hostile actions.
The Islamic Revolution is against colonialism, hegemony, humiliation of
nations by big powers, political dependency, interferences in the affairs
of others, secularism and laxity, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The Islamic Revolution backs principles such as national and Iranian
identity, Islamic values, defense of the rights of the oppressed people
and efforts to acquire scientific progress, pointed out the Supreme
Leader.
Ayatollah Khamenei said, "If we ignore some of these principles,
hostilities towards us will not be lessened and the fact is that they tell
the Islamic Revolution of Iran to change its behavior which means that we
should give up our beliefs."
The Islamic Revolution has never backed down from its principles in the
past 30 years, said Ayatollah Khamenei.
Comparing the current status of the US in the region with its status 15
years ago, the Supreme Leader said they have become more hated, humiliated
and suffered more defeats in carrying out their plots in the Middle East
particularly in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Islamic Revolution became victorious to materialize such ideals as
justice, human dignity, values, brotherhood, ethics and resistance to
enemies, said Ayatollah Khamenei.

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei met
today with Ecuador's President Rafael Correa and his accompanying
delegation. In this meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei described resistance as
the only to make progress and stated: "Mounting resistance requires brave
leaders, and such leaders can be found in the Latin American region."
Referring to the hatred of Latin American countries and the other
countries of the world towards the United States, Ayatollah Khamenei said
that the nations of the world are tired of the pressure and domination of
the arrogant powers. His Eminence further said that only brave leaders can
free their nations from the domination of the arrogant powers.
Ayatollah Khamenei also referred to the insatiable desires of the
world's domineering powers and said: "Resistance is the only way for the
world's nations to defend their rights, but some of world's leaders
continually retreat before the bullying powers instead of defending the
rights of their nations."
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution also referred to the
resistance of the Iranian nation during the past thirty years, especially
during the Sacred Defence Era and stated: "Imam Khomeini (r.a.) taught us
to put up resistance against the enemies, and the Iranian nation has
gained a lot of benefits due to such resistance."
His Eminence further added: "The current achievements of the Islamic
Republic are by no means comparable to those of the pre-Revolution era."
Ayatollah Khamenei said: "The nations of the world have to pay the
costs for mounting resistance against the domineering powers, but the
benefits which are gained due to resistance are much more valuable."
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution further added that the
Islamic Republic does not support aggressive policies but will not give up
its rights either.
In this meeting which was also attended by President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad, Mr. Correa expressed his delight at his meeting with
Ayatollah Khamenei and referred to the Iranian nation as a brave and
determined nation. He said: "The Islamic Republic has made great progress
during the past thirty years despite all the sanctions and the 8-year
Iraqi imposed war."
Mr. Correa also appreciated Imam Khomeini and his resistance against
the world's arrogant powers and said that the people of Ecuador have
chosen to tread the same path.
The President of Ecuador also referred to his meeting with the Iranian
President and said that Ecuador intends to improve its relations with Iran
and will try to make use of Iran's experience in different fields.
Mideast, Asia, Africa
witnessing victories: Leader
Arafat Desert, Saudi Arabia, Dec 7, IRNA
Arafat-Leader-Message
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali
Khamenei said on Sunday that over the past thirty years, the Middle East
and Muslim countries in Asia and Africa have been witnessing victories in
campaign for freedom.
The Supreme Leader made the remarks in his message to the Hajj pilgrims,
which was read by his representative for Hajj affairs, Hojjatoleslam
Mohammad Mohammadi Reyshahri during the disavowal of pagans ceremony held
in Arafat Desert, near holy Mecca.
Palestine and the Islamic Intifada and the emergence of a Muslim
Palestinian government; Lebanon and the historic victory of Hizbollah and
the Islamic resistance to the arrogant bloodthirsty Zionist regime; Iraq
and the establishment of a Muslim and populist government on the ruins of
the atheist regime and the dictator Saddam; Afghanistan and the
humiliating defeat of the Communist occupiers and their puppet government
are clear indications of the triumph of Islam in its struggle against its
enemies in this century.
The Supreme Leader reiterated that failure of all plots hatched by
arrogant America to dominate the Middle East; the incurable problems and
chaos inside the usurper Zionist regime; prevalence of the Islam-seeking
masses in all or most of the neighboring countries and especially among
the youth and intellectuals; the amazing scientific and technological
progress in the Islamic Iran achieved under severe economic sanctions and
embargoes; defeat of warmongers in America in political and economic
arenas and Muslim minorities' regaining their true identity and dignity in
most of the Western countries are among other indications of advancement
of Islam in its fight against its enemies in the 15th century of Lunar
Hegira.
