Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution met
today with a large group of scientific elites and academics. Speaking at
the meeting, His Eminence described scientific progress as a vital need
for the country and added: "This scientific progress must be based on
indigenous generation of knowledge and accompanied by self-confidence and
hope."
He said that holding discussions with scientific elites of the country
is a symbolic act aimed at raising their status among government officials
and the people. "We need to respect our elites because it provides the
best incentive to boost knowledge inside the country."
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said informing the public
about the views of elites and academics is another purpose of this meeting,
further adding: "The expert views of our academics will definitely help
the administration, Majlis, Expediency Council, and executive bodies to
make appropriate decisions."
Ayatollah Khamenei also stressed that the acquisition of knowledge and
making use of the scientific advancements of other countries is one of the
requirements of scientific progress. "Acquisition of knowledge is not the
same as scientific dependence and lack of innovation. On the contrary,
scientific progress must be achieved with a focus on our Iranian and
Islamic culture, national needs, and indigenous generation of knowledge,"
he noted.
His Eminence emphasized the need for needs assessment and specification
of scientific priorities in educational plans and added: "Considering the
limited resources and the great number of needs, we must not invest in low
priority research projects."
The Supreme Leader said the promotion of research among university
students is another requirement for scientific progress, further
reiterating: "Abolition of rote learning and promotion of research and
critical thinking among the students are important points that have to be
considered regarding educational reforms in the country."
Elsewhere in his speech, His Eminence stated that the country is in
need of experienced as well as young and energetic academics. He stressed
that young academics must not be prevented from occupying academic
positions held by experienced professors.
At the end of this meeting, the participants said their evening and
sunset prayers led by the Supreme Leader.
Supreme Leader invites
public, officials, elite to unity
Tehran, Sept 19, IRNA
Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said
here Friday that unity
among people, elites and officials is the prime necessity of the
country under present conditions.
"People should feel tranquil and politically and psychologically secure;
enemy, however, tries to take the peace away by heightening tension and
unfortunately, there are certain people inside the country ho add up to
the tension unconsciously," said Supreme Leader in his second sermon to
this week's Friday prayers congregation.
Ayatollah Khamenei said worldly desires are the main reason for
diversion of societies.
"Today, since certain world mongering people are in charge of global
affairs, injustice is made in case of human beings; the world mongers too
resort to conspiracy, war, false propaganda and dastardly policies and
ploys to meet their goals," added the Ayatollah.
Ayatollah Khamenei said under present "misty and vague" conditions --
better to be called `conditions of conspiracy'-- which are provided by the
world mongers, some people lose insight and blind prejudice starts hence
to grow to the extent that some people, who are not world mongers, might
also follow the trend.
Elsewhere in his address, Ayatollah Khamenei touched on Iranian
nation's constant resistance and adherence to the Islamic Revolution's
principles and fundamentals, saying that while sticking to principles, the
people are men of science and research with a good knowledge of time
exigencies.
The Supreme Leader pointed to Iranian nation all-out presence in the
1980-88 Sacred Defense as well as in the scenes of reconstruction and
science in the post-war era.
"When pro-aliens had set discord on their agenda, people called for
unity and when enemy espionage apparatus tried to stir riots in certain
cities, those were people who were present in the front line of campaign (against
the riots)," added Ayatollah Khamenei.
The Supreme Leader also referred to public support for the country's
peaceful nuclear program irrespective of enemy adverse publicity.
"When enemy stepped up propaganda (against Iran) over the nuclear issue,
people fairly showed the best possible type of reactions. Such vigilance,
resistance and insight are worth admiration," announced the Supreme
Leader.
Ayatollah Khamenei said dear Iranian nation will through the same
resistance and vigilance, turn the fourth decade of the Islamic Revolution
into decade of progress and justice. "In that case the nation and country
will become invulnerable," boasted the Supreme Leader.
"Of course, those slapped in the face by Islam and the (Islamic)
Revolution (of Iran) will continue hostility. However, vigilantly and
alertly the best way of guaranteeing national and public interests should
be chosen and resistance should be shown in the course," announced the
Ayatollah.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei said people are unhappy
with vain and unjustified claims of certain political elites.
"Such absurd and minor issues should be vigilantly discarded," said the
Ayatollah.
The Supreme Leader then touched on certain wrong claims about Israeli
people and said, "Iranian nation has no problem with Jews, Christians and
followers of other religions. But that claimed that we are friends with
Israeli people alike other world people is a wrong claim because they have
been accomplices in usurping lands, properties and assets of the
Palestinian nation and they are agents of the Zionist officials and
Palestine usurpers. The solid stance is official stance of the (Islamic
Republic) system."
Ayatollah Khamenei said constant reactions shown to false statements
about Israeli people are "vain and tension-escalating" gestures. "The
wrong claim has come to an end. Such minor and absurd issues should not be
looked into and continued."
The Ayatollah also warned against certain points which would trigger
tension in society and also against criticisms raised against government.
"... Some unfair claims are these days raised in criticism of overnment,"
said Ayatollah Khamenei, adding that necessary guidelines on presidential
elections will be given to the public at an appropriate time as long time
is still left until the elections.
The Supreme Leader said any claim and plan about future of the country
and about such problems as inflation and price hikes should be raised in
the expert-level and specialized meetings.
Warning that such issues should not lead to ruining officials and the
government as is customary in western states under pretext of democracy,
Ayatollah Khamenei asked the elite to clear their comments from any unfair
statements on the issues.
"Open atmosphere and ongoing liberties provide possibility for comments
on any issue by all people. One should not however be unfair and make
comments just to ruin others," said the Supreme Leader.
More on the issue, Ayatollah Khamenei said all factions, officials and
people should be careful with their words and deeds.
"The elites and politicians are advised to bear the reality in mind
that people are unhappy with such a moral and decide wisely away of the
destructive claims," noted Ayatollah Khamenei.
Elsewhere in his sermon, Ayatollah Khamenei here Friday called on
people at large to take part massively in the International Qods Day
rallies.
"The brave and vigilant Iranian nation will on Qods Day this year too
pour into streets and defend rights of the oppressed Palestinian nation
along with other Muslim and freedom loving nations," said the Supreme
Leader.
Calling Palestine as core of regional problems, Ayatollah Khamenei said
Qods Day provides a suitable opportunity for Muslim world to raise its
stances against usurpers of Noble Qods.
The Ayatollah said the Zionist regime has stepped up incursion and
injustice in case of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank over recent
days, which set proofs of its internal weakness and humiliating defeat
vis-a-vis the Lebanese and Palestinian strugglers.
Ayatollah Khamenei went on declaring, "Hamas government in Gaza is a
legal and popular government coming to power through elections; the
so-called advocates of civilization and democracy, however, defy the fact
and are supporting Zionists' atrocities and crimes." Lauding the late Imam
Khomeini's initiative in calling the last Friday of the Holy Month of
Ramadhan as the International Qods Day, Ayatollah Khamenei said that God
willing, Iranian people and Muslim nations will on the great day pay their
due to Palestinians and Muslim governments too are expected to act on
their duty in helping the Hamas government and the Palestinian nation.

arrogance treats the Iranian nation with acrimony because the nation's
Islamic system runs counter to their worldwide domineering policies.
"Global arrogance knows the Islamic System well. At the same time, the
Islamic System has well tracked down the bloody claws of the arrogance
under velvet cover. The face-off then is natural," Ayatollah Khamenei told
authorities Tuesday evening.
Ayatollah Khamenei noted the western media's brawls over the Islamic
rules and regulations which are applied in the Iranian system of
government, adding however that the Iranian authorities would continue to
follow the principles of Islam and the revolution.
In the same regard, Ayatollah Khamenei criticized those who seek to
undermine the revolutionary principles in the guise of call to rationality
and moderation, adding, "They are fed up with the Islamic principles
unlike the will of people however they claim the public is tired too."
Ayatollah Khamenei noted that adherence to the revolutionary platform
never hinders the country's progress despite an enemy effort to insinuate
an otherwise trend.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the pessimists who downplay the
post-revolutionary achievements were insulting the nation, adding that
even thirty years after the revolution, the nation continues to honor the
revolutionary mottoes. "There are many young artists who never saw the
time of Imam or war but they appreciate the great movement of the nation
in their works of art."
Ayatollah Khamenei however instructed the executive authorities to
avoid immoderation in adopting any macro policies, adding that the three
