Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei in a statement
Thursday commemorated the memory of the martyrs and sacrificing veterans
of the Sacred Defense era two decades ago.
In his statement, Ayatollah Khamenei underlined that the martyrs'
sacrificing in time of revolution and military defense safeguarded
national independence and the geographical boundaries and donated security
to the country, saying the martyrs shine as radiant points in the
illuminant page which show the path like guiding stars.
The text of the statement is as follows.
Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim
This day of the Sacred Defense Week which is named after the martyrs
must be dedicated in large part to deliberations on the tremendous debt
the country, the nation and the Iranian history owe to those valiant men.
It was their sacrifice in time of revolution and military defense that
safeguarded national independence and geographical boundaries and donated
security to the country.
Enemies of Islam, minded to haul down the hoisted flag of the Islamic
Government and whisk the hopeful sign away from the eyes of the Islamic
nations, resorted to military invasion card and sent the corrupt and
deviated Baathist regime to battle against the devout and brave Iranian
nation with all-out supply.
The prowess of this great nation, mainly as their diligent defense of
Islam and the Islamic Republic which brought pride and honor to Islam and
the Islamic Umma, was a tribute to the faith in martyrdom and position of
martyrs.
The bright view helped the desire to sacrifice to emerge in the hearts
of the combatants and their families.
Some of them ascended to the lofty position and some risked their body
and soul in waiting for them. "Some of them fulfilled their vows, and some
still wait" (Al-Ahzab, 23). And it was then that the unprecedented prowess

bare the secret of dignity, independence and happiness to wit the
sacrificial jihad.
The martyrs constitute the radiant points in this illuminant page which

IR Leader donates to needy
prisoners

Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei donated a sum of
200 million rials (close to 21800 dollars) to a fund dedicated to release
prisoners who are jailed for involuntarily offences but cannot secure
their release due to financial problems.
Every year, the Iranian benevolent people stage a festival in which
they collect aid to release those people who are sentenced to financial
redemptions but are still behind bars for not affording the sums.
Called 'Flower showering celebration,' the festival is held annually
under the auspices of the foundation in charge of indemnification affairs.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei
said on Saturday that the beautiful rhythm of progress and national
dignity is being heard in the country and young students are expected to
shoulder responsibility in this respect.
In his message to a conference of European-based university students,
the Supreme Leader said that young students are expected to be well
prepared as men of science and knowledge to advance the goals of the
nation in the domain of their expertise.
"I honor your conference and I pray to God for your success and
progress in acquiring science and technology. You are passing the spring
season of your life. Thanks God, this is a fresh and beautiful period
owing to your hard work to learn science and knowledge," the Supreme
Leader said.
"Fortunately, your nation and country are endeavoring to attain bright
prospects thanks to rich history and national resolve to do so," Ayatollah
Khamenei said.
"We have achieved our lofty goals thanks to blessings of Islam," he
said.
The Supreme Leader advised the students to pin hope on the assistance
and guidance of the Almighty God and get involved in hard work for
attaining the national goals of progress, welfare and prosperity.

a marine industry exhibition

TEHRAN, Sep. 22 (ISNA)-Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei
visited Iran's navy research and marine industry exhibition in Noushahr.
In this exhibition held at the college of Marine Science of Imam
Khomeini, various research and scientific achievements of Iranian
researchers and scientists in the fields of defense industries and navy
forces and subfields like various modern military equipments such as
missiles, laser rocket systems, tracking devices and anti missile radar
systems were demonstrated.
While appreciating the developments and achievements of the Navy force,
the General Commander of Iran Military forces, Ayatollah Khamenei
emphasized on the importance of order and endeavor.
"The universities of military are of significance due to the presence
of young, talented and hopeful students and we must consider elevating the
educational status and level." he emphasized.
While asserting the necessity of empowering the military forces, Iran's
Supreme Islamic Revolutionary Leader stated that due to the domination
seeking and oppressing powers of the world today and the avidity to seek
their benefits in other countries, the military forces and equipments
should be empowered.
The General Commander of Iran's Military forces declared that the claim
of world peace by some western countries was an obvious lie and while
emphasizing that the Islamic Republic of Iran would never attempt any
aggression against any country, asserted that the Military forces of Iran
were ready to answer any kind of practical or assaulting threats by the
enemy.
Supreme Leader dismisses
claims to peace of some Western states as hypocrisy

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei
said on Thursday morning that claims by some Western states to peace is an
obvious hypocrisy and lie.
Ayatollah Khamenei made the remark at a gathering of commanders of the
Armed Forces after touring an exhibition on the achievements of Iran's
Navy at Imam Khomeini Navy Academy in Noshahr.
The Supreme Leader said that given the hegemony of bullying powers over
the world countries and their intention to lay hands on the resources of
these states, the armed forces should be fully prepared to defend their
homeland.
Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the potentials of the cadets of the
Armed Forces academies and said that if they are provided with proper
momentum, they will be capable of wonderful achievements.
Underlining that Iran is against aggression on other countries, the
Supreme Leader said, "The Armed Forces are now fully prepared to respond
to any threat or aggression and have the ability to defeat them."
Ayatollah Khamenei arrived in Noshahr on Wednesday and attended
graduation ceremony for cadets of Imam Khomeini Navy Academy.

Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei traveled to
Nowshahr north of country Wednesday to partake the fourth army cadetship
graduation ceremony.
Honoring the aspirations of the Iranian nation in terms of scientific,
spiritual, economic and cultural progress, Ayatollah Khamenei told the
military ceremony, held in the campus of the city's Imam Khomeini
University of maritime sciences, that experience proves that a
peace-loving nation that moves towards self-purification, prosperity,
dignity and humanistic causes must be capable of defending itself in the
face of international a ggressors and bullies, hence military sovereignty
a lead goal for the Iranian nation and country.
The Commander-in-Chief emphatically described work in the armed forces
as a duty, adding during the past 27 years, the brave Iranian nation,
especially its devout and robust youths, never let enemies pose a
practical threat, but the armed forces must be on full alert for standing
against any enemy threat.
The IR Leader described the invaluable experience of the armed forces
as a precious asset and urged all army cadets to utilize the experience
and take example from the eminent martyrs.
Ayatollah Khamenei called future of the country very prospective and
lauded the nation's vigilance, ebullience and exuberance as well as firm
belief of the officials in serving people, adding, now foes and friends of

Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei described
prayers as the lead base of individual religious practice and general
religious performance of nations as well as the vital element of every
religious community.
Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks in an address to authorities in
charge of the Foundation for Performing Prayers.
Ayatollah Khamenei invoked Quranic verses and the words of the Fourteen

The Islamic Revolution Leader, in other parts of his remakrs, expressed
deep sorrow over the Pope's recent remarks on Islam and praised Islamic
world's due response.
"The remarks in one look are allegations leveled at Islam but the other
side is more significant that is the assistance of such remarks to world
imperialist which are intended to create religious conflict between
Muslims and Christians," Ayatollah Khamenei warned.
"Charges that Islam ignores rationality are the same as denial of
sunlight, because no other Devine book puts emphasis on wisdom and
prudence as Quran does; moreover, the Islamic umma's shining scientific
civilization took shape based on Islam's recommendations about wisdom,
science and prudence," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Concerning the Pope's remarks on jihad in Islam, Ayatollah Khamenei
said it is the ultimate unfairness from an individual to misinterpret
Islam's views about jihad while having failed to comprehend the issue.
"Islamic jihad is not (a tool) to impose opinion on others, but the
nations' liberation movement against those powers which put shackles of
slavery on human," Ayatollah Khamenei added.
Ayatollah Khamenei touched on some Quranic verses and words of the
Fourteen Infallibles that urge Muslims to treat people of other faiths
with magnanimity, adding in Islam's view mankind for being mankind
deserves magnanimity. "How come Islam is accused of violence despite the
existence of those numerous definite verses?" the IR Leader asked.
"More significant in the unfortunate remarks is the behind the scene
imperialist policies that are aiding to create religious crisis, make
followers of different religions confront and halt their cooperation,"
Ayatollah Khamenei cautioned.
Ayatollah Khamenei warned about America's attempts to incite rancor and
pessimism between Muslims and Christians and mar the image of the Muslim
minorities in the West to repress Islamic community under the pretext of
perceived support for terrorism.
"Global bullies consider their continued life as dependent on religious
conflict within international community. The Pope practically helped such
policies through his remarks," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Ayatollah Khamenei added however that it was likely that the Pope had
been deceived and so ignored particular goals sought by such remarks.
The IR Leader then recalled a meeting years ago with a European
official in which he was surprised at the European's touching on Crusades.
"However, when the New York towers incident took place and consequently
the American President spoke about Crusades and then the American-Zionist
project was launched, the intention of the European official, who had a
direct role in the attack on Iraq, was made clear and it was realized that
heads of arrogance had previously drew up the phases of the
American-Zionist plot," Ayatollah Khamenei continued.
The IR Leader denounced the insulting cartoons and insulting remarks by
certain politicians and press in America and Europe about Islam as
different links of a ploy to incite crusades, adding "the Pope's remarks
are the latest link."
"We do not expect Bush, because he is working for the global powers and
pillager companies, but the remarks from a senior clerical Christian
authority are regrettable and surprising," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The Leader of the world Muslims cautioned Muslims about the policies
lying behind the Pope's remarks, adding in this story as well the Big
Satan (American Government) is busy paying role so every one must beware
that protests must be pointed at those who benefit from the Pope's unfair
remarks and pursue their imperialist policies through them.

TEHRAN, Sept. 17--Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali
Khamenei hailed Mohammad Hossein Behjat-Tabrizi, aka Shahriar, as one of
the most distinguished poets of Persian language, noting that Shahriar
never compromised his poetry for the sake of those in power, IRNA reported.
Addressing the members of scientific and executive boards and
participants in the International Congress on Shahriar which was held
concurrently in Tehran and Tabriz on Sept. 16, the leader pointed out that
in spite of being a Turkish-language speaker, Shahriar wrote many poems in
Persian which were highly appreciated by the public.
Referring to mystical concepts and wisdom in Shahriar poems, Ayatollah
Khamenei said there are many wise aspects in his masterpiece Heydar Babaya
Salam, which deserve attention.
“Shahriar never compromised his poetry for the sake of those in power,“
he said.
“Shahriar’s poems during his youth about Imam Ali (AS) and Imam Hossein
(AS) reflect his attention and affection toward Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
and his infallible household,“ he said, adding that Shahriar has also
written poems about the 1979 Islamic Revolution and Basijis (volunteer
forces).
Pointing to truthfulness, trustworthiness and friendliness as
Shahriar’s characteristics, Ayatollah Khamenei called on scholars and
participants in the congress, which was held to commemorate the birth
centenary of Shahriar, to bring different aspects of his life and works
into the limelight.
Shahriar was born in Khoshkenab, East Azarbaijan province, in 1906 and
his tomb is in the Cemetery of Poets in Tabriz.

Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei on Saturday
received young elites ranking high in national and international
scientific examinations and olympiads.
The guests offered their views on various scientific, social, cultural
and academic issues.
Ayatollah khamenei called scientific progress as an strategic objective
for the country and stressed that the non-stop and speedy effort of the
scientists and students particularly young elites is the main factor for
materializing this objective.
He described this gathering as a symbolic meeting to glorify and
respect science/knowledge and scientists and added, "The Iranian nation
has suffered much damage from scientific backwardness and the Westerners'
abuse of science for political, economic and cultural hegemony."
"Therefore it (the Iranian nation) has decided to compensate for its
historical backwardness and to make inefficient the threats of rivals or
enemies with a great speed in scientific progress."
Stressing that good and bad characteristics of countries and societies
have to be studied together, the Islamic Revolution Leader said, "A part
of the developments in the West is because of their risking character."
Ayatollah Khamenei named religion and ethics as complemens to science
and called on the elites to pay attention to spiritualities parallel to
their steady scientific efforts.
"The most scientifically-developed country which is America has a great
distance from human ideals such as justice, security, peace and prosperity.
This is because of the big gap which exists between science and morality/spirituality
in the West."
The Leader assessed the speed of Iran's scientific progress very good
compared to the other countries.
Referring to the achievements of Iranian scientists in the fields of
nuclear energy, producing stem cells, and military achievements, Ayatollah
Khamenei said, "The current scientific movement in the country is going on
with a high speed."
"However, we have to keep on the speed for two more decades to fill in
the deep gap between Iran and the world caravan of scientific progress
created by the political, economic and cultural hegemony of America during
Qajar and Pahlavid regimes," he said, adding that young elites and the
leaders of the countries must shoulder this great responsibility.
Referring to the coming month of Ramadan, Ayatollah Khamenei advised
all people especially the youth to take advantage of this great
opportunity adding, "In the holy Month of Ramadan, fast in a way that
would make you feel more light has entered your pure hearts and you have
got closer to Allah."

Islamic Revolution Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in a message on
Thursday to the 7th annual meeting of the nationwide universities'
Independent Students Islamic Association said that faith, resolve and
Jihad are the three elements required to materialize any goal and ideal.
The IR Leader pointed to the three elements as Islam's eternal lessons,
which elevated Muslims to the climax of history, adding that today they
will serve to rescue them from captivity.
"There is no doubt that the youth are most capable concerning these
three basic elements," added Ayatollah Khamenei.
He said that a community in which justice, spirituality and dignity are
set on top of its goals is obliged to be faithful, determined and pursue
Jihad.
"This is the same eternal lesson of Islam to its followers and the
entire humanity," added Ayatollah Khamenei.
The IR Leader called on the independent students to trust divine
promises, which are to be materialized in light of the vigilance of world
nations.
Ayatollah Khamenei further called on them to attach value to their
potentials and make optimum use of their capacities in scientific fields,
adding, "The future belongs to you."

"Prosperity and progress of the Iraqi people is the same as the Iranian
and regional people's own prosperity and progress," Islamic Revolution
Leader Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei told visiting Iraqi Prime Minister
Nuri al-Maleki Wednesday, adding the Islamic Republic of Iran feels
obliged to support by deed the Iraqi people and government.
Ayatollah Khamenei expressed pleasure with the formation of an
independent and stable government in Iraq and hope that the day comes in
which the Iraqi nation restores its deserved position and which its
material and human resources serve the Iraqi nation, with the hand of
aliens just severed.
The IR Leader said he was sorrowful about daily pain and hardship
facing the Iraqi people, adding that pain and grief was incurred partly
from the former evil regime and partly by the presence of occupiers in
Iraq.
"Provided the occupiers exit, many problems of Iraq will be resolved
and based on the same argument we long for the occupiers' withdrawal,"
Ayatollah Khamenei asserted.
During the meeting, also attended by First Vice President, Parviz
Davoodi, the Iraqi Prime Minister expressed pleasure with his visit to
Iran. Maleki praised I.R. of Iran for its stance to back the Iraqi nation
and government.
Maleki termed his trip successful, adding the expansion of relations
with friendly and neighbor countries is a major priority of Iraq's foreign
policy.
Maleki then elaborated on the Iraqi situation and the measures adopted
by his government to tackle the existing problems in the country, mainly
efforts to promote unity and integrity among different Iraqi tribes, sects
and denominations, adding the main problem facing Iraq is insecurity
notably blamed on Bathists and Takfiris (Muslim excommunicators).
The Iraqi Premier expressed hope that the two countries would
experience broadened ties by enforcing previously concluded bilateral
agreements.

Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei told visiting
Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh and his accompanying delegation
Tuesday that Muslims and the Islamic countries enjoy ample capabilities
the proper use of which could greatly help promote the Islamic umma as
well as the mankind happiness.
Ayatollah Khamenei moreover reaffirmed IRI position in serious terms
that cooperation among the Islamic countries must be broadened.
"Colonialist and warmongers have always blocked opportunities of the
Islamic umma to utilize its capabilities," the IR Leader said, adding
following the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran which brought
about the spirit of self-confidence in the youths, many advances were
achieved in science and technology, an example of which the access to
nuclear energy technology.
Ayatollah Khamenei called colonial powers' policy of warmongering in
the sensitive Middle East region their artifice to sell their weapons,
adding Western countries give weapons to the regional countries in
exchange for oil so that grounds are always prepared for war and conflict
in the region.
"These (Western) countries carry dark pages of fomenting war and
bloodshed in their file of the past 150 years," the IR Leader said.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran stands against war and bloodshed,"
Ayatollah Khamenei said, adding Iran is ready to make its experience and
achievements in science and technology available to the Islamic umma.
Ayatollah Khamenei urged the Islamic countries to trust one another,
identify their position in the Islamic front and avoid mistaking the
Islamic front for the enemies of Islam's. Ayatollah Khamenei expressed
hope the agreements concluded during the Djibouti President's trip to Iran
are finalized through follow-up efforts.
During the meeting, with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on attendance,
Ismail Omar Guelleh expressed pleasure with his second visit to Iran,
adding the two sides enjoy common views on regional and international
matters.
"At present, the Islamic Republic of Iran bears the flag of true Islam
and stands as the only country to resist against enemies of Islam,"
Guelleh said.
Guelleh said he and President Ahmadinejad had chalked solutions in
their talks to further expand mutual cooperation.
