Leader urges youth to promote affinity with the
Holy Quran
Tehran, July 20 - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah
Seyyed Ali Khamenei here on Tuesday urged the youth to promote affinity
with the holy Quran and keep reciting it, stressing that this would
prompt self-purification.
Ayatollah Khamenei, in a meeting with elite students, said memorizing
the holy Quran together with its Persian rendering would encourage
fondness of the book.
The leader further stressed that the years of youth are the best in
every man's life for understanding the meaning of quranic verses and the
heavenly signs indicated in them.
Ayatollah Khamenei said elite students are Iran's national asset.
He further called on the students to promote vigilance against the
plots by the enemies and increase their knowledge about the sciences so
as to better serve the Iranian nation.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the state institutions must prepare the
grounds for the students to help flourish their abilities.
The Supreme leader further stressed that the Iranian youth have
obtained the self-confidence and courage to struggle to become the
world's leading scientific force.

TEHRAN, July 19 (MNA) -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on Monday that Iran should endeavor
to make use of all modern methods and technologies in educational fields
in order to reach the lofty goals of the Education Ministry and improve
the scientific level of teachers and students.
In a meeting with the Education Ministry officials, the Supreme
Leader stressed that training such people will create a fair, peaceful
and honorable society, adding that education is the most important job
in the country.
There is a great difference between untrained human forces, which are
children and ideal human beings who are wise, intelligent and spiritual
and the Education Ministry plays a very significant role in this regard,
he said.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the aim behind teaching and training in Islam
is to raise ideal human beings, adding that this is a formidable duty
the Education Ministry shoulders.
The leader stated that an ideal man favored by Islam is one who is
successful both in materialistic and spiritual aspects of life, adheres
to ethics and justice, and is interested in attaining spiritual
perfection and moving in the right path.
The Education Ministry should use all facilities at its disposal and
adopt necessary policies to attain such a lofty goal, he stressed.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei said that the events
taking place across the globe are the result of domination of
materialism, capitalism and logic of force as well as isolation of
spiritual values.
The worst type of violence is being committed and hypocrisy has been
given high status under the umbrella of defending the law, order,
justice and human rights, he added.
The Supreme Leader said despite all its financial, military and
political facilities enough to help it attain its objectives, the United
States is exerting pressure on certain regional states to change their
textbooks, which indicates the important role of teaching and education.
Referring to the Education Ministry's access to valuable intellectual
and spiritual elements and the teachers' worthwhile efforts, Ayatollah
Khamenei stressed the necessity for multi-dimensional qualities in
education.
Describing financial issues as part of the numerous educational needs,
he stressed that the ministry should make strenuous efforts to uplift
the position of teachers and headmasters and prepare the grounds for
further cooperation between parents and schools.
Leader urges intl war on terrorism

Tehran, July 13 - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah
Seyed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with visiting Prime Minister of
Singapore Goh Chok Tong stressed on need to pursue the international
campaign against terrorism.
Referring to the Singapore's premier's comments regarding campaign
against terrorism, Ayatollah Khamenei added, "terrorism is a
loathsome, horrible phenomena and the Islamic Republic of Iran has
deeply felt its consequences ever since many years ago, and that is the
reason why we consider campaign against terrorism not only essential,
but also of great importance."
The Supreme Leader added, "the early 80's terrorist attacks in
Iran in which 72 prominent personalities were martyred at one occasion
and a president and a prime minister at another, were organized by those
terrorists who are now living freely under the supportive umbrella of
those Western countries that claim to be the standard bearers of the
international campaign against terrorism."
He reiterated, "when those horrendous terrorist attacks took
place in Iran no one of the current pioneers of campaign against
terrorism even condemned those loathsome moves."
Ayatollah Khamenei also referred to the assassination of 11 Iranian
diplomats and press reporters in Afghanistan by Al-Qaeda and Taliban
terrorists, arguing, "even then, neither the Americans, nor the
Europeans, who are now pursuing Al-Qaeda agents as members of the most
dangerous terror organization, showed no reaction at all."
Referring to the ongoing terrorist moves in Iraq in which the
nationals of various countries are taken captive and threatened to be
beheaded, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "we seriously suspect the agents
of the Americans and Israelis in conducting such horrendous terrorist
moves and can not believe that the people who kidnap Philippine's
nationals, for instance, or behead US nationals are Muslims."
The Leader referred to the Islamic Republic of Iran's policy of
expanding ties with Asian countries, including Singapore, reiterating,
"under equal conditions, Iran prefers to do business with Asian
partners, rather than the countries in other parts of the world."
Referring to Iran's good relations with Singapore and the current
potentials for broadening ties, he said, "the potentials for
broadening ties are discovered more than ever before in both countries
today."
During the meeting in the presence of President Seyed Mohamad Khatami,
the prime minister of Singapore referred to the significant geographical
position of Iran and the remarkable stability the country enjoys despite
the shaky position of the Middle East, and the great economic potentials
of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He added, "in our talks in Tehran we are determined to broaden
and strengthen our bilateral ties with Iran to an unprecedented level."
Goh Chok Tung said, "terrorism is a serious threat against the
world nations today and Singapore, keeping in mind the developments in
the Middle East and the terrorist moves in Iraq, fears lest such moves
would expand to other parts of the world."
He reiterated, "Singapore considers campaign against terrorism
an important issue and tries to play its role in that campaign alongside
the other world nations."
Tehran, July 9 - Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed
Ali Khamenei said in Hamedan on Thursday that peace and tranquility are
the real demands of Iran's Islamic system and Iranians.
Addressing the joint military ceremony of the army, Islamic
Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Basij, and police forces in Hamedan
province, Ayatollah Khamenei said that unfortunately the world's
hegemonic powers are after their own illegitimate interests, plunging
the world in to blood, hatred and wrath, and depriving mankind of peace
and calm.
Pointing to the arrogant powers' threats against the Middle East and
West Asia, the Supreme Leader said under such circumstances, any nation
failing to safeguard its dignity and identity would be doomed to fail.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that having understood the reality, the
Iranian nation and armed forces have not shown and will not show laxity
even for a moment.
Calling the army, the IRGC, Basij and police as being complementary
to one another in Iran's defense system, the Commander-in-Chief of the
armed forces said that no military threat might be posed to Iran for
years, but the country's powerful defense system should maintain its
unity and solidarity and constantly improve its comb at readiness to
defend the country and the nation.
The Supreme Leader said that Iran's refusal to bow to the world's
bullying powers is the reason for its dignity in the eyes of other
nations.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the Iranian nation's perseverance has made

The Supreme Leader said the Iranian nation will continue resistance

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei said the Iranian armed
forces take lessons from self-sacrifice, vigilance and perseverance of
noble martyrs and follow their honorable path, that is the grandeur of
Iran and Islam.
The Supreme Leader also paid tribute to the martyrs of eight-year
sacred defense (1980-88) and the Islamic Revolution.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Commander of the Islamic republic
army, Major General Salimi said that the army and IRGC have raised their
combat readiness within framework of a deterrent and powerful defense
strategy.
The model army units then paraded in front of the the Supreme Leader
of the Islamic Revolution.
In his address to a group of pilots and air force commanders, at the
third air force base in Hamedan, Ayatollah Khamenei hailed the key role
of the air force in the eight-year sacred defense, saying they have
always been vanguards in making the country s elf-sufficient in the
domain of military hardware.
The Supreme Leader said successful manufacture of Sa'eqeh (thunder)
jet fighter by the Islamic republic army's air force and elevation of
their combat readiness are the results of their faith, hard endeavors
and strong will.
He said such an honorable practice should be followed more vigorously.
Sa'eqeh jet fighter made a successful test flight in the presence of
the Supreme Leader during the ceremony.
Hamedan prov, July 7 - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution
Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei here Tuesday stressed that the Iranian
nation and officials will always be indebted to all who have died in the
service of the country.
Addressing bereaved families of martyrs, war disabled and war
veterans of the western province of Hamedan, the Supreme Leader paid
tribute to those who have given their lives for the sake of Islam and
for the cause of defending Islamic Iran and preservin g the ideals of
the Islamic Revolution.
The Supreme Leader called on all Iranian people to preserve the
memory of the martyrs, stressing that they are the most sincere and
devoted of servants in the cause of upholding Islam and achieving the
goals of the Iranian nation.
The Supreme Leader arrived in Hamedan Monday morning warmly welcomed
by local residents and provincial officials.
Iranians Relying on Wisdom and Experience to
Create Model Country: Leader
TEHRAN, July 6 (MNA) -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on Tuesday that the Iranian nation
will turn the country into a model for the international community
thanks to 25 years of successful experiences, national resolve, and
reliance on wisdom.
In a meeting with several thousand members of the Basij (volunteer
forces) in Hamedan, the Supreme Leader said that the Islamic Revolution
worked a great miracle and helped Iran attain a dignified status and
free itself from being a regional base for the United States through
advocating Islam.
Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the great achievements of the nation
over the past 25 years and said that the enemies are more angry now than
they were during the first few years after the victory of the Islamic
Revolution because they see the nation determined to proceed along the
path of economic, social, and scientific development, so economic and
military threats do not work anymore.
The Supreme Leader said that the Iranian nation ignores the U.S. and
Zionist propaganda campaign against Iran and advised the youth to fight
drug addiction and immorality.
"There is no doubt that the hands and brains of the enemies are
behind the conspiracy of drug addiction and immoral behavior."
Ayatollah Khamenei said that the Islamic Revolution served to
reinforce freedom and independence, adding, "We are still at the
beginning of the road. We should revive the spirit of hard work and
proceed with reconstruction efforts to administer social justice and
safeguard public morality in order to prove that Islam is able to
provide the moral and material needs of humanity."
On the Iraq issue, the Supreme Leader said that Iran does not have
any reason to adopt a negative approach toward the Iraqi government,
adding that although it is not democratically elected, it can pave the
way for the establishment of a legitimate government.
"The Iraqi government should opt to distance itself from
Washington, to hold a democratic election on schedule, and to put an end
to the occupation. It is abhorrent for the Iraqi people if the
occupation forces stay one more hour because of their common practices,
an example of which being the Abu Ghraib prison scandal."
On the trial of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, Ayatollah Khamenei
said that Saddam''s indictment should include his crime of imposing
eight years of war on Iran.
"The U.S. has always been an accomplice of Saddam in the crimes
he perpetrated against both the Iranian and Iraqi people. He always
received a green light from Washington in perpetrating crimes against
humanity."
On Monday the Supreme Leader emphasized that the correct teaching of
religion promotes the intellectual growth of the people.
Addressing a gathering of ulema, scholars, and theology students of
the western province of Hamedan, Ayatollah Khamenei said eliminating
doubts and thwarting plots hatched by the global arrogance to negatively
influence public opinion are among the important duties of scholars and
clergymen.
He praised religious scholars for their great efforts to explain and
teach Islamic ideology and principles and called on the ulema and
clergymen to keep abreast of the latest developments in every field so
they can answer different questions.
Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to investments made by the global
arrogance in the fields of art and modern technology to instill doubt in
the minds of nations, saying that religious and Islamic ideology,
particularly of Shia Muslims, has been the target of such conspiracies.
The Supreme Leader said that religious scholars also face political
challenges, adding that the global arrogance is trying to create a
gloomy atmosphere in order to deceive people and promote deviation.
Every person who intends to enlighten the public in this gloomy
atmosphere will be the target of their rage and wrath, and for this
reason religious scholars in particular and the brave and independent
Shia clergy have always been the target of the hostile attacks of the
United States and other hegemonic powers, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Despite all these hostilities, clergymen will continue their efforts
to enlighten the people as their main duty, the Supreme Leader said in
conclusion.

public opinion are among important duties of scholars and clergymen.

Iran Will Cut Off Hands Of Those Who Wish To
Attack Our Technological Interests
TEHRAN, July 5 (MNA) -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei arrived in the western capital city of
Hamedan Monday morning. Crowds of enthusiastic people lined the streets
leading to Hamedan airport to get a glimpse of the Supreme Leader, who
was greeted on his arrival at the city by a number of provincial
officials.
Speaking among thousands of local residents and officials, the
Supreme Leader stressed that Iran's great, faithful, brave and cultured
nation is capable of setting a remarkable example of national and
Islamic development.
In order to achieve this goal, the Iranian people and officials
should make efforts to create appropriate socio-economic dealings, he
stated.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that the country's executive, legislative and
judiciary forces should endeavor to help develop the country and keep
vigilant against the enemy's psychological warfare.
He stressed that the forces should uphold social justice and attempt
to resolve the problems of people particularly those of the
underprivileged people.
The Supreme Leader stated that the officials should shun vain issues

Describing the true reform of socio-economic dealings as a means to

people and the three branches of the government are responsible for
creating healthy and proper socio-economic dealings.
The Supreme Leader expressed pleasure over Iran's success to gain
independence in wheat production, adding that farmers and officials
should be given encouragement for this purpose.
Ayatollah Khamenei lauded the will and determination of the Iranian
nation toward attaining development, adding that officials should
strengthen people's trust in the government by performing their duties

He stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran, with such a great
national strength, will be able to resist any aggressive power.
In response to U.S. allegations that Iran was damaging Washington's
interests, the Supreme Leader warned the United States that any attack
on Iran's interests would be met with a global response.
"If the enemy attacks our scientific, natural, human or
technological interests, the Iranian people will cut off its hand
without hesitation and endanger the interests of the aggressor
everywhere in the world," he said.
Leader recommends structural reforms
Hamedan, July 5 - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah
Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Monday that the economic and social structure
should undergo transformation and the people themselves along with the
governing system should assume their responsibility to move forward.
Addressing tens of thousands of people waiting for several hours at
sports stadium of Hamedan to greet their leader, Ayatollah Khamenei said
that Iranian nation is capable of putting forth a model for national
development.
The Supreme Leader said that Iran needs national resolve to set an
example for economic and social development. The Supreme Leader called
on heads of three branches of government to fulfill their obligations to
speed up national progress.
Ayatollah Khamenei once again emphasized the need to restoresocial
justice and fight poverty and said that those who have undertaken
responsibility should be responsive to the public and not to waste the
time of the nation by raising controversial issues.
"The people themselves should also fulfill the hard task of
treading the path of progress. The people are the great asset and their
moral strength is effective in utilizing the natural resources of the
country for social and economic progress," the Supreme Leader said.
"Hard work and efforts, investment, sacrifice for the sake of
progress and preferring national interest to personal one, and
resistance to the enemy are the great assets which were crystallized in
the course of Iraqi-imposed war which brought defeat for Saddam Hussein
and his Western and eastern supporters (in 1980s)," the Supreme
Leader said.
The Supreme Leader expressed concern about smuggling, usury, and the
public's interest in using foreign made goods and said that consuming
foreign made commodities means that "you are making an Iranian
worker jobless in favor of a foreign worker."
"The people should regard as "a value" consuming
domestic products." The Supreme Leader expressed dismay at lack of
campaign against rent-seeking and abuse of power to obtain windfall
wealth and said that the three branches of government should fight
financial corruption very seriously.
Referring to the latest statement made by the US officials that Iran
has jeopardized the US national interests, the Supreme Leader said that
Iranian nation never bargain with others about its own national interest.
"If they venture to launch aggression on any Iranian
installations, the nation will cut off their hands immediately and their
interests worldwide will be put at risk," the Supreme Leader said.
Supreme Leader arrives in Hamedan
Hamedan, July 5 - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah
Ali Khamenei arrived in the western capital city of Hamedan Monday
morning with thousands of local residents and officials on hand to
welcome him.
Crowds of enthusiastic people lined the streets leading to Hamedan
airport to get a glimpse of the Supreme Leader, who was greeted on his
arrival at the city proper by a number of provincial officials.
The visit is the first by Ayatollah Khamenei to this historic city in
his present capacity as Supreme Leader. He said his aim is to meet with
residents from all walks of life and hear their problems and demands
during his five-day stay here.
The leader is also scheduled to inaugurate a number of completed
infrastructural projects in the province.
Hamedan is located 337 km west of the capital Tehran.
Leader receives Syrian president
Tehran, July 5 - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah
Seyed Ali Khamenei here Sunday received the visiting Syrian President
Bashar Al-Assad.
Alluding to the amicable ties enjoyed by the two Muslim states, the
Supreme Leader expressed hope the current visit of the Syrian president
would further consolidate their relations.
Ayatollah Khamenei also led tribute to the late Syrian president
Hafez Al-Assad, saying he was an outstanding politician.
For his part, Bashar Al-Assad expressed satisfaction with the two
countries' friendly relations, noting their identical views on many
regional and international issues.
As to the critical situation in neighboring Iraq, he said Iran and
Syria are undoubtedly interested in the return of a stable Iraq to the
international community and have always supported measures to achieve
this end.
President Assad, heading a high-ranking political delegation, arrived
here Sunday for a two-day working visit.
