Full text of his Message, 21.2.2004
In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate.
O dear and proud nation. You went to the ballot box and you truly
created an Islamic and national epic. The enemy waged a psychological
warfare campaign for two months. It did not pursue any aim other than
dashing the hopes of the Iranian people and lowering turn-out at the
elections. However, you demonstrated your awareness and ability to take
advantage of suitable opportunities once again. Now the people of the
world can assess your performance. You visibly demonstrated the
greatness of our faithful and revolutionary nation to your enemies.
Interventionist imperialists were day-dreaming and they sought to
portray the Islamic Republic as being deprived of its popular base.
However, you obliterated that baseless idea. Over the last two months,
the enemy concentrated all its efforts on executing this malicious plot
and praise be to the power of God, you acted with dignity and
intelligence and foiled it. The [20 February] elections were held under
the enemy's propaganda bombardment and, therefore, they were even more
important than the elections held in the years of holy defence (reference
to the Iran-Iraq war, 1980-88) when our cities were being bombarded. I
am a humble servant of God and I express my gratitude to Almighty God
for his assistance to this country and this nation and for enabling them
to have this unforgettable experience.
Once again, I would like to say that I truly praise you brave and
faithful nation for your greatness and I do so from the bottom of my
heart. Yesterday's elections were completely free and they were
completely fair and legal. Regardless of the result, it is completely
credible. From the point of view of our people and officials of our
country, the judgement of American imperialists who have been talking
nonsense about these elections is absolutely worthless. I think it is
necessary for me to thank all executive and supervisory officials, as
well as those who were responsible for upholding law and order. I would
also like to thank our media, particularly our national media.
My advice to our officials is as follows; firstly, you should
safeguard the people's votes and remain trustworthy. Secondly, you
should express your gratitude to this loyal and dear nation. My advice
to those who will form the seventh Majlis (parliament), thanks to the
people's votes, is to make use of their scientific, social and political
capacities and to do their utmost to serve this nation and to strengthen
the lofty and magnificent edifice of our Islamic state. They are merely
the people's trustees and their religious and revolutionary duties are
to make efforts to work hard and serve the people. My advice to
political associations, groups and parties is to abandon the distressing
debate about who won and who lost. Thus they should refrain from
exacerbating disputes which only make our enemy happy.
The nation is the winner of these elections. All of those who
participated in the elections, be they those who either themselves, or
their favourite candidates, gained votes, or those who failed to gain
votes. They are both winners. Those who lost the elections were America,
Zionism and the enemies of the Iranian nation. You should work together
and you should help each other and help the government, which is serving
the people. In this way, our problems will be solved one after the other.
May God be satisfied with all of you and may he bestow his mercy and
blessings upon you and grant you assistance.
I salute the remnant of God, may our souls be sacrificed for him. I
salute the immaculate spirits of our martyrs and their Imam who has a
lofty status. May God bestow his blessings upon you.
Tehran, Feb 21, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic
Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Saturday praised the Iranian people from
all walks of life for their massive turnout in the 20 February
parliamentary elections. He said the Iranian people created an epic on
20 February as they flocked to the polling stations to cast their votes
and ignored the poisonous propaganda of the opponents of the Islamic
system of Iran. "The Iranian people were stormed by the black
propaganda of enemies of Islam, but they acted based on their common
sense and their realistic insight when they went en mass to the polling
stations to caste votes," said the leader.
He described the 20 February elections as a "fair, sound and
legitimate election" and noted that the elections had neutralized
the conspiracies of the enemies. He said the enemies have launched a
psychological war for the two past months to discourage the people and
to prevent them from going to polls. The arrogant powers were after
creating division in the ranks of the people and separate them from the
officials and system but they have seen that their thoughts and
anticipations were unsubstantiated and false, said the leader.
Ayatollah Khamenei said whatever the result of the election, it was a
fair, sound and legal one adding that the people showed they did not
consider at all the calls by the Untied Sates to boycott the elections.
He called on the political camps in the country to set aside the
factional tug-of-war and mull over effective measures to render services
to the Iranian nation. Iranians displayed a respectable turnout in the
Friday`s parliamentary elections with polling extended by four hours
beyond the official closing time to allow latecomers to vote. Iran`s
leaders and state media had exhorted voters to "slap America in the
face" by turning out in droves, seeking to tap a deep vein of
nationalism and suspicion of foreign interference among many Iranians.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei was among the first to cast his
ballot. He said it was a great day for the nation and the country.
"I hope, the election result will be a blessing for the nation and
the country. God willing the election will have a useful result."
"I think this election is more important than the former ones.
ecause the counter revolutionaries are making efforts to stop people
from voting," the Supreme Leader said. The Supreme Leader said that
he is confident about the people`s intelligence and that no one can stop
the youth who like to vote. HB/214 End

Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei here Saturday stressed the need

Neishabour, northeastern Iran, Wednesday. In a message to the city`s

fertilizers and cotton which exploded near a train station in the

TEHRAN, Feb 20 (Mehr News Agency) -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic
Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei visited Imam Khomein Husseinieh
and cast his poll in ballot box no. 110.
The Supreme Leader said no power can stop people including the
fervent and buoyant youth from performing their duty of voting because
the nation is knowledgeable and vigilant.
The Leader thanked Allah that once again he was given the chance to
participate in the great and public task of voting in the country.
He said he voted for 30 candidates and said he was happy that he has
done his duty as a citizen. The Leader said every citizen has the right
to participate in Majlis election.
"I had also this right and today I did my duty," he added.
The leader said the seventh Majlis elections are very significant and
sensitive because the enemies are mustering all their might in the vain
hopes of discouraging people from going to the polls.
The Supreme Leader admired the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution
(Ayatollah Khomeini), the martyrs of revolution and the sacred defense,
which provided the opportunity for the people to decide about their fate
freely.

7th Majlis / Supreme Leader : It is a great day
for nation
Tehran, Feb 20, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution
Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Friday that it is a great day for
the nation and the country. "I hope, the election result will be a
blessing for the nation and the country. God willing the election will
have a useful result." "I think this election is more
important than the former ones. Because the counterrevolutionaries are
making efforts to stop people from voting," the Supreme Leader said.
The Supreme Leader said that he is confident about the people's
intelligence and that no one can stop the youth who like to vote.
TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency 13.2.2004) -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic
Republic Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei here on Friday urged Iranian
people to rush to the polls to choose their representatives, thereby to
thwart the enemies’ plots.
Speaking to thousands of worshipers at Tehran Friday prayers, the
leader stated a high turnout in the upcoming elections would be a slap
in the enemies’ face and disappoint them in pursuing their evil ploys.
The Supreme Leader praised the Iranian people from all walks of life
for their participation in the massive rallies held on February 11 to
mark the 25th victory anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the holding of the seventh parliamentary
elections is of prime importance, noting both the friends and enemies of
the Islamic Revolution are scrutinizing the election.
Every zealous Iranian is duty-bound to work for a fair election that
would guarantee the honor and prestige of the nation and ensure the
prosperity of the country.
He said participation in elections indicates the clearest symbol of
popular presence and a great support for the Islamic Revolution.
Referring to the frequent failures of enemies in achieving their
diabolical goals, he said, “The only way of the foes is to sow seeds
of dissension between the Iranian people and the officials. That is why
centers of arrogant powers are scrutinizing the Feb. 20 elections so
that in case of low popular turnout they would separate people from the
officials and pave the way for interferences in Iran. However, people
will prove firm as in the past and champion the ideals of the Islamic
system.”
Referring to the recent statements of U.S. officials on Iran election,
he said the enemies are encouraging Iranians to shun the elections and
this shows the bitter U.S. animosity towards the Islamic Republic.
He described the comments of U.S. officials as flagrant interference
in Iran's internal affairs, adding the authorities should know that
Iranians would view their statements with a look of contempt.
The leader urged the officials to defuse the situation and avoid
exaggerating the discrepancies among fractions over the electoral
process and examination of hopefuls’ qualification.
There are people in the country who are seeking to create or
exacerbate tension but people are vigilant enough not to be deceived by
them, he warned.
The Supreme Leader stressed the necessity of regarding certain
criteria to vote for candidates.
In his speech, Ayatollah Khamenei said piety, efficiency, care and
courage are the four main criteria for electing appropriate candidates.
“A strong Majlis will be formed if dependant on people’s votes
and committed to its duties,” he said.
“Our republicanism is based only on Islam and Islam does not allow
us to reject democracy,” he said.
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed the Iranian nation has managed to
guarantee Islamic identity and republicanism through its dependence on
the Constitution.
The Supreme Leader went on to say that representatives of the nation
should be pious and efficient as well as caring about the downtrodden
people.
“They should not be attached to money and power and should perform
their duties with courage and persistence,” he said.
The nation is free to elect their representatives through voting
within the boundaries of law; if the nation is happy with their
performance, they will elect them again; otherwise, they change their
choice.
The Leader also said the Islamic government and the officials have
never been trying to create enemies. He said putting an end to the
pillage of our resources by colonial powers has been a major reason for
the enemies’ animosities toward Iranian nation. Another major reason
for their animosity is that the Islamic Revolution has breathed a new
life into the veins of Muslim countries.
The enemies have always been trying to confront the Islamic
Revolution by downgrading or humiliating religious democracy, which is a
great achievement by the nation.
The U.S. claims to be the defender of democracy but the president of
this country with the backing of 25 percent of voters supports the most
despotic regime, which by itself shows a lack of incompatibility between
democracy and religion or spirituality.
IRIB 13.2.2004 - The supreme leader of the Islamic revolution says
taking part in elections indicates the people’s presence on the scene
and is a big support for the revolution and Islamic republic system that
can safeguard the country’s destiny from any harm. Ayatollah Khamenei
in remarks at Tehran’s Friday prayers on Feb 13
reiterated that the only way left for the enemies is to separate the
people from the officials and that is why world power centers have
focused their attention on the Feb 20 elections in Iran. Ayatollah
khamenei reiterating the important role of the parliament in determining
the Iranian nation’s fate considered the 7th parliament to be
important from the viewpoint of the country’s 20 year
perspective. For, the first step in carrying out this perspective will be
taken by the parliament. The leader’s emphasis on people’s
participation in the elections is a reminder of a fundamental principle
of the Islamic republic system. For, the victory of the revolution is the
result of years of the people’s struggle against foreign domination
and their continuous presence on the scene to reach independence. The
people’s participation in elections is also one of the important
manifestations of this presence of the people in determining their fate
and that of their country. The people’s presence in the Feb 20
elections is also important in this line and because the enemy is trying
to discourage the people from taking part in the elections .US officials
and also Eu foreign relations commissioner Chris Patten’s
interventionist remarks made recently are indications of these
efforts. They say elections in Iran are not free, but undoubtedly they
only aim in this way to discourage the Iranian people. For, foreign
powers have by experience learnt that the Iranian nation will not be
intimidated by their threats and economic and political pressures, thus
their only hope is weakening the pillars of the Islamic revolution and
system.A hope that will turn into despair with the Iranian people’s
strong will to take part in the upcoming elections.
Supreme Leader urges academicians, researchers
to contribute to sciences
Tehran, Feb 10, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution
Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said here on Tuesday that Iranian
intellectual elite, scientists and researchers have the historical duty
to make strong contribution to promotion of science and technology.
Addressing a group of young academicians and scientists as well as
winners of the scientific and research contests both inside and outside
the country, Ayatollah Khamenei said officials have the grave duty to
help the intellectuals achieve their "highly important"
objective. Ayatollah Khamenei criticized certain group of states for
taking in their monopoly certain branches of science and technology,
using them for their political ends. The Supreme Leader said science and
wealth should be fairly distributed in the world and be brought out of
certain group of people's monopoly. He said firm determination, active
presence on the scenes of science and technology, and proper use of huge
domestic wealth and resources are the prerequisites for campaign against
certain countries' monopoly. The paramount leader highlighted extensive
scientific achievements in the post-Islamic Revolution era, saying
thanks to Iran's scientific progress, the wide gap between the country
and the developed states has been narrowed down. He said that Iran is
still far behind the developed states and lots of works and intense
activities are still needed to narrow down the gap. Also pointing to
Iran's scientific achievements over recent years, Ayatollah Khamenei
said movement in the path to scientific progress had been a highly
important issue, which has been successfully fulfilled thanks to God
Almighty, but the more important thing is continuing to move in the said
path up to the end. Somewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei called
on the community of scientists, intellectuals and researchers to avoid
engagement in politics, reasoning that the practice is feared to leave
"destructive" impact on their scientific and research
activities.

Remain Independent"

emphasized; "The Iranian nation is determined to remain
independent.

unit in Tehran on Sunday, Ayatollah Khamenei, referred to the Iranian
nation's persistence in remaining independent and stressed that

rule in Iran for fifty years and even today continue with support for
100 percent of all dictatorial rules in other parts of the world.
The supreme leader pointed that "the enemy will be discouraged
if it feels that the process of movement, self-strength and
independence-seeking can never be halted in Iran."
Ayatollah Khamenei, termed as significant the role of scientists,
university scholars and politicians in creating despair in the heart of
the enemy and reiterated; "even the armed forces can strengthen
their organization and planning to play a key role alongside the
university and industrial sectors in delivering faithful youth to the
society.

and foreigners seem highly-motivated to downplay these symbols, The
Iranian nation with its wide-scale participation in the upcoming rally

TEHRAN, Feb. 6 (Mehr News Agency) Supreme Leader of the Islamic
Revolution Seyyed Ali Khamenei here on Friday stated that citizens in
general and officials in particular need to be vigilant, adding that all
should strive to make Iran flourish under Islamic rule.
In a message on the occasion of the ceremony of laying flowering on
martyrs’ graves held on Martyr Praising Day, Ayatollah Khamenei said
that the Islamic Revolution is indebted to martyrs and their honored
families for all it has gained.
“The dignity and sovereignty of the Iranian nation has been
attained through the sacrifices of the country’s best youth, who
fought for the establishment of an Islamic system and defended Islamic
values,” the Leader said.
He added that officials should consider themselves the trustees of
this divine gift and make efforts to defend it.
Ayatollah Khamenei went on to say that enemies still lie in wait,
adding that the slightest negligence could ruin the Iranian nation’s
great achievements.
TEHRAN Feb. 4 (Mehr News Agency) -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic
Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said here Wednesday that the
seventh Majlis elections will be held on February 20 without a day of
delay.
Speaking to thousands of people from all walks of life, the Supreme
Leader said the elections indicate the freedom and will of people in
determining the fate of their country.
Ayatollah Khamenei added that people's participation in elections
indicates that they possess a government, a Majlis and governmental
officials.
"This crucial issue protects the country like a firm parapet
against conspiracies and strikes fear into the hearts of the enemies of
Iran and Islam," he said.
The Leader described the popularity of the system as a major cause of
the enemies' frustration in the past 25 years since the inception of the
Islamic Revolution.
He went on to say the revolution and Islamic system in Iran would
never have survived the conspiracies of domineering powers if it wasn't
for the presence of elections and democracy in Iran and people's massive
participation in various scenes.
"This is why various centers of aggression fear people's
participation in the February 11 demonstrations and the upcoming
elections and are trying to halt both events with all their might,"
he said.
Referring to the massive propaganda machine employed by foreign media
against the seventh Majlis elections in Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei said
enemies are resorting to different strategies in a bid to damage and
postpone the elections.
The Leader said hegemonic powers follow this general policy through
ploys meant to postpone the elections. He added they try to make
officials believe that the elections cannot and should not be held in
the appointed time by way of various direct and indirect propaganda and
other methods.
"But the government and nation will thwart this conspiracy,"
he said.
Voicing regret over the remarks of certain people who "repeated
the comments of the enemies of people", Ayatollah Khamenei added
enemies are trying to encourage certain executive officials to reject
their legal authorities.
The Leader said that conflict between the executive and supervisory
boards of the election is not something new and that there is a solution
to every conflict.
"During its blessed life, the Islamic Revolution has succeeded
in breaking the deadlocks. Today, thank Allah, there is no deadlock in
front of the Islamic Republic and the Iranian nation," he said.
"No one is authorized to shirk duties just because they do not
agree with a certain method or an incident. Shirking one's
responsibilities in the form of resignation is haram (religiously
forbidden)," he said.
The Supreme Leader stated the majority of the MPs are loyal to the
Islamic Revolution and wish to serve people, adding that the Majlis is
the cornerstone of the Islamic Republic.
Certain people have infiltrated into the Majlis and are distorting
the realities, he said.
"In the Islamic Republic, we are servants of people and take our
pride in serving them. People are not indebted to the officials. Rather,
it is the officials who owe gratitude to the people. This spirit has
been the key to the survival of the Islamic Republic over the past 25
years in the face of conspiracies of the enemies," he said.
The Supreme Leader said that the Majlis shoulders heavy
responsibilities which are religious, ethical and national.
"After the end of the imposed war, a lot has been done in the
country and bright horizons are gradually emerging. But, the enemy is
hatching plots to stop the progress," he said.
Elsewhere in his speech, the Supreme Leader offered felicitations to
the Iranian nation on the occasion of the Ten-Day Dawn and Ghadir Khom
feast (February 10).
Referring to the decades of foreign domination over Iran -- the
British and U.S. looting of Iran -- the Leader said the Islamic
Revolution brought awareness to Iranians and they uprooted dictatorship
under the leadership of the late Imam, ousted the U.S., and took charge
of their destiny in 1979.
On the worldwide Islamic reawakening, the Supreme Leader said that
the young generation in Muslim countries celebrates the anniversary of
the victory of the Islamic Revolution every year because they believe it
to be a model for their own national awakening.
Tehran, Feb 4, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution
Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei here on Wednesday stressed that the
upcoming Majlis election will be held on February 20 without even one
day delay. Addressing a large group of people from all walks of life,
the Supreme Leader said the election is a manifestation of freedom and
people`s will. "The election is also a manifestation of presence
and power of people in administering the country," Ayatollah
Khamenei said adding that presence of people in the election will show
that the nation is master of "government, Majlis and all officials".
Such an important move will safeguard the country and the system against
conspiracies of enemies and will intimidate enemies of Islam and the
Islamic Republic, the Supreme Leader reiterated. Referring to people`s
support for the Islamic Republic as the main factor behind failure of
enemies in the past 25 years, Ayatollah Khamenei said the Revolution and
the Islamic system would not have survived even one year in the face of
conspiracies of the hegemonic governments if elections and democracy had
not existed in the country. That is why today arrogant powers are
frightened by presence of people in rallies marking the victory of the
Islamic Revolution and massive turnout in the elections and mobilize all
their potentials to prevent materialization of these two.
7th Majlis Supreme - Leader: Conflict between
executive, supervisory boards not something new
Tehran, Feb 4, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution
Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday that conflict between the
executive and supervisory boards of the election is not something new
and every conflict has a solution. "There is no knot that cannot be
untied and every conflict has a solution. During its blessed life, the
Islamic Revolution has succeeded in breaking the deadlocks. Today too,
thanks God, there is no deadlock in front of the Islamic Republic and
the Iranian nation," he said. "One is not authorized to shun
its duty, because of his objection to a method or an event. Refraining
from fulfilling a task in the form of resignation is Haram (religiously
forbidden)," he said. The Supreme Leader said that the majority of
members of parliament are faithful to the Islamic Revolution and keen on
serving the people adding that the parliament is the pillar of the
Islamic Republic. Of course, certain individuals may have infiltrated
into parliament and they are showing the facts upside down, he said.
"In the Islamic Republic, we are servants of people and take our
prestige from the service to the people. "People are not indebted
to the officials of the Islamic Republic. Rather it is the officials
that have a debt of gratitude to people. This spirit has been the key to
the survival of the Islamic Republic over the past 25 years in the face
of conspiracies of the enemies," he said.
