Leader: Martyrs' memory will remain in hearts forever (26.9.2002)Tehran, Sept 26, IRNA -- On the fifth day of the Sacred Defense Week, the day attributed to honor Martyrs and the War Veterans, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei paid tribute to the martyrs and said that the memory of the martyrs, "the dearest children of the nation will remain in the hearts forever." The Leader said in his message to mark the occasion that remembrance of the martyrs is a blessing which finds new dimensions every year so that they are alive forever. "The Iranian nation is indebted to the martyrs who sacrificed their life for the cause of dignity, freedom and independence of their nation and the lofty Islamic aspirations. They put their life at risk to support the Islamic Republic established by the late Imam Khomeini," the Supreme Leader said. "Today, the leaders of the world arrogance admit that they helped the aggressor with all possible military means to take vengeance on the newly-established Islamic Republic, but, the brave Iranian soldiers mocked the enormous military arsenal the world powers provided for the aggressor to destroy Iranian independence and dignity thanks to the support of the families that forwarded their beloved members to the war-fronts," the Supreme leader said recalling voluntary presence of the young Iranians who stood to defend the country and the Islamic Republic during Iraqi imposed war 1980-1988. Meanwhile, special ceremony was held at Behesht-e-Zahra cemetery where the tombstones of the martyrs were washed with rose-water and prayers were performed for the delight of their souls. Leader: Elite students should be honored (25.9.2002)Tehran, Sept 25, IRNA -- Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khemenei said on Wednesday that the community should honor the elite talents and the scientific progress as a public culture. In a meeting with a group of winners of the international and national Olympiad scientific contests, the Supreme Leader said that thanks God grounds have been prepared for the young talented students to augment the level of scientific knowledge through research studies available in the country. The Leader called for drawing up of advanced programs for the elite students in parallel with the public curriculum for education. Ayatollah Khamenei said that while upgrading the level of public education, the elite students should enjoy special education to acquire advanced science and technology and bolster their capability. While listening to the views being put forward by the students about the education standards and the preferences in acquiring science and technology and the need for visiting and passing educational courses at foreign academies, the Supreme Leader said that he supports dispatch of the elite students abroad for acquiring science and technology. The Supreme Leader said that the government should send the elite students abroad for advanced studies adding that such a plan would be very useful for the country. "Islam calls for promotion of knowledge and transfer of science and technology from everywhere. So we are not worried about our elite students going abroad to equip themselves with science and technology and bring what they have acquired back to the country. It is very useful," the Supreme leader pointed out. The Supreme Leader expressed reservation over residing of Iranian scientists abroad and said that the nation expects the scientists to transfer advanced knowledge from the four corners of the world to the country. The Supreme Leader said in the meantime that the elite students should foster self-confidence and go on research studies independently if access to foreign academies becomes impossible. "We should not focus only on translation of the studies of the foreign academies. Instead, we should encourage our students to go ahead with research studies by providing appropriate atmosphere for them," the Supreme Leader said. "Iranians have always been the proponents of science and knowledge. The Westerners have learnt a lot from Iranians, but, unfortunately, the Westerners have undermined Iranians' self-confidence by introducing themselves as the only source of science," The Supreme Leader said. The Supreme Leader said that Iranian academies are capable enough to regain the glory of the past in science and technology in the next 50 years thanks to the achievements in software field the nation has made. The Supreme Leader said that the success of Iranian students at the international and national Olympiads indicated the progress the country has made in science. The Leader said that Iran and the Islamic culture have bright record in bringing up great scientists including Avecenna (Ibn-Sina), Mohammad Zakarya-e-Razi and Kharazmi. Ali (AS) that it is an "immediate, urgent and indispensable" need that
all officials follow the government model of the first Imam of Prophet
Mohammad's infallible Household. The Leader said officials should focus all
their efforts on building a prosperous, advanced and powerful society. All
officials of the establishment, including the leadership, president, ministers,
judiciary officials, MPs and directors of different organs nationwide, should
attend to the oppressed and poor strata and observe piety. This is to ensure
that the Islamic rule is observed and justice is administered as well as
discrimination is uprooted, the leader added. "Only in this case, people
will attain happiness and a steely powerful society will be established,"
Ayatollah Khamenei said. He cited rule of justice as another characteristic of
Imam Ali's government. "If a person commits an injustice in a political
competition such as elections or any other scene or pays no heed to the poverty
and corruption around himself or implements laws with discrimination, this is
violation of Imam Ali's government pattern" he added. "In our effort
to establish this model, it is not important whether the rest of the world
agrees with us or becomes displeased," the leader said. Ayatollah Khamenei
also slammed the US for its human rights and anti-terror claims as well as those
who want an American type of government be established in Iran. "Are those
who gave chemical weapons to Iraq, only to want now to attack that country for
having chemical arms, and those who support the Zionist regime's blatant and
heinous terrorism, real proponents of human rights? "Is it possible to
chant both Islamic slogans and want to use them (Americans) as model?," the
leader asked. The Iranian nation, especially the faithful youth and officials,
who are taking their strength from God, are determined to confront plots and
propaganda of the imperialist powers, he said. "They will not let America's
international dictatorship dominate this country again," Ayatollah Khamenei
added. The Supreme Leader said the Islamic Revolution of Iran has played an instrumental role in the revival of the Iranian nation's identity and personality. Hegemonic powers have constantly been trying to downgrade beliefs and talents of the Iranian nation, strip them of their sense of self-confidence and independent identity and pave the way for their continued domination on the nation's interests, the Leader said. The Supreme Leader calls on iranian students to take role in country's future (15.9.2002)Tehran, Sept 15 - The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Saturday called on Iranian students studying abroad to undertake constructive role in the future of their country.
In a message to the 37th meeting of the Islamic associations of Iranian students in Europe held in London, the Supreme Leader expressed concern about US threats and warned against the chaotic situation which the US military attack on Iraq will impose o n the middle east. The Supreme Leader said that the United States has embarked on a propaganda campaign against Iraq as the first step to unleash military action against all the nations in the middle east in a bid to seize all the vital resources in the region. Even the longstanding friends and allies of the United States have the same attitude about the US militarist moves and media campaign, the Supreme Leader pointed out. "This is a threat to the entire humanity. A country possessing force and money sees itself above all ethical standards and is relentlessly seeking dominance and hegemony over the globe," the Supreme Leader said in his message to the students read out by Hojjatoleslam Ejei. The Leader said that popular forces are capable of tackling the United States arrogant approach adding that the political systems which are dependent on their own people are strong enough to repulse any invasion despite the arrogant power's numerical a rsenal. Leader's remarks on 11/9 published (14.9.2002)11:10:23 AM Vatican, Sept 14 - Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei's last year remarks after the September 11 terrorist attacks in USA are published in a separate chapter of a book published in Italy. Ayatollah Khamenei had made the remarks in response to arrogant omments made by certain Western leaders, and the general attitude adopted against Muslims in the West. The Leader's comments are published in a chapter of the book "Terror and Bullying", by catholic professor, Franco Cardini of the university of Florence. Professor Cardini is a distinguished Orientalist and Islamologist who has in his latest work focussed on the stands adopted by prominent Muslim and Western leaders and intellectuals towards the September 11 terrorist events. He has in his book condemned religious discrimination against the world Muslims following the occurrence of the said events of the type that other renowned Italian author Oraina Falachi has vastly reflected in her book "wrath and arrogance" that is an anti-Islamic work by nature. In Cardini's book the remarks made by prominent religious, political and reformist authorities on September 11 events are published in four separate chapters, entitled "voices from Italy, voices from Europe, voices from the Usa, and voices from the Islamic world." The Leader recieves EA members (10.9.2002)5:11:22 PM Tehran, Sept 10 - The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said integration of religion into politics, society and governance builds up the Islamic establishment and that everyone should uphold this hallmark of the Islamic sy stem. Ayatollah Khamenei made the comment Tuesday at a meeting with members of the Experts Assembly and added arrogant powers have been trying for a long time to instill separation of religion and state. The Leader further said Iranians who witnessed rampant immorality, dependence and other disorders which emanated from the absence of religion before the Islamic Revolution took on board after the victory of the Revolution the blessing of the presence o f religion on political,social and governmental stage. The Supreme Leader further said Iranians will not entrust the administration of their personal, social and political lives to those who hold faulty non-divine ideas and power-inspired thoughts. Leader's message underlines importance of prayer (7.9.2002)Kerman, Sept 7, IRNA -- The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, in a message read out here on Saturday at the nationwide 12th Prayer Seminar, underlined the importance of observing prayers. Ayatollah Khamenei's message was read out by the head of the Leader's Office, Ayatollah Mohammad Mohammadi Golpayegani. Urging Iranian officials to give importance to the promotion of prayers in the country, the Supreme Leader's message called for construction of more mosques throughout the country. "Prayers helped the Iranian nation a lot during the 1979 Islamic Revolution and in the course of the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war," he said. Ayatollah Khamenei, in his statement, further underlined the need to promote Friday prayer congregations throughout the country. Hundreds of ulema, Muslim thinkers, clerics and Friday Prayer leaders as well as a large number of ministers and Majlis deputies are attending the two-day prayer seminar. The Supreme Leader wished all success for the athletes of the Iranian wrestling team. Iran became the world champion with Mehdi Hajizadeh winning the gold medal at the 36th World Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Tehran. Hajizadeh won the match against Magomed Isagaschiev from Russia in the 74 kg category beating his rival 4-0. He also beat Yavaser Gokhan from Turkey 8-1 in the semifinal. The wresting championships 2002 began in Azadi Sports Complex on Thursday morning with wrestlers in the -55, -66 and -84 kg weight categories stepping onto three mats. Top wrestlers from over 40 countries took part in the event, while Iran and Russia were favorites among main crown-winner hopefuls in the absence of US squad which withdrew from the tourney.
