Leader stresses importance of justice

Tehran, Oct 29, IRNA -- Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei here on Tuesday stressed the importance of justice in the society. In a message to the second nationwide Students Assembly, the Supreme Leader stressed that the wise and committed Iranian students have always been following the most important issues of the country. Ayatollah Khamenei further regretted the race for welfare among Iranian officials, ignorance towards expansion of the gap between the poor and the rich in the society, accumulation of wealth by some officials, and spending public wealth on unimportant issues. At the end of his message the Supreme Leader urged the government, the Judiciary and the Majlis to take serious measures to eradicate corruption throughout the country.

Supreme Leader attends cadet graduation ceremony

Tehran, Oct 29, IRNA -- Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Tuesday attended the 35th cadet graduation ceremony at Imam Ali (AS) Army Academy. The Supreme Leader said in his address to the graduates of the army academy that the world arrogance has adopted the language of extortion and militarism, but, despite the hue and cry, it will fail in this approach, because none of the military weapons is able to defeat the nations. The Leader said that the enemy has well understood that it will achieve nothing through military action on national borders so that they have planned to target the religious beliefs of the Iranian nation. The Supreme Leader commended the army commanders who apply science and technology for safeguarding national security. The Supreme Leader awarded ranks to top academy students. SS/AH End

Elite students offer Olympiad medals to Supreme Leader

Tehran, Oct 26, IRNA -- A group of elite students, who have won medals in international Olympiad contests, on Saturday offered their awards to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei. The Supreme Leader accepted the medals and said he would send them to the Museum of Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine in Mashhad. The Supreme Leader expressed pleasure with success of Iranian young students in national and international Olympiad contests and said that the awards the students have obtained in the Olympiad contests are of great value. Ayatollah Khamanei appreciated the strong relationship between the young students and Islam and the Islamic Revolution and said that despite certain attempts to deny the youth's commitment to the Islamic and moral values, the students have proved their faith in Islam and the Islamic values. "All are indebted to the country and the Islamic Revolution. The youth should proceed with their endeavors to attain scientific and moral progress for the cause of national aspirations," the Supreme Leader said. 

Prior to the Leader's remarks, Member of Board of Trustee of Young Students Club Gholamali Haddad Adel offered a report to the Leader and said that most of the elite students are from southern Tehran or the deprived provincial areas who have dedicated their medals to the Leader. SS/RR End

Leader says Iranians will repel any threat

Tehran, Oct 22, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said here on Tuesday that dear and faithful Iranian nation will stand all threats and ward off all ambitious aggressors, who would have the temptation to knock on their borders. Ayatollah Khamenei in an address to tens of thousand people said justice is the prime need of Iranian society today and senior Iranian officials should think on administration of justice to meet real needs of the masses. The Leader made the remark in an address on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Hazrat Mahdi (May God expedite his reappearance), he 12th infallible Imam of Prophet Mohammad's (SAWA) infallible Household. The Imam is now in occultation and it is believed that he would administer justice worldwide upon his re-appearance. The Supreme Leader advised officials to launch strong campaign against corruption in the state- an non-state-run institutions. The Leader said branches of government have the duty to observe piety and fight any sort of corruption in the areas under their control. In case of any shortcoming, said the leader, the Judiciary should step in and deal strongly and without any mercy with any illegal action, corruption and abuses. Ayatollah Khamenei lashed out at the western style of democracy and said what exist worldwide today in the name of democracy or the so-called popular government are nothing but the old-fashioned dictatorships, emerging in new forms at the expense of money and deceitful publicity. The paramount leader said in the so-called democratic systems public votes are downplayed through explicit or implicit purchase of the votes and through winning popularity through misleading publicity. The leader said there is no room for any deception or fraud to win public votes or for power abuse to earn money in an Islamic system and the acts are branded as a big sin. Ayatollah Khamenei said Islamic system of Iran does not at all claim being standard bearer of the government favored by Islam but one can detect signs of such a government in such a system. "Due to the same reason, centers of power, officials and directors of Islamic establishment should consider accumulation of personal wealth and fortune as a sin and try hard not to commit it," said the Leader. Ayatollah Khamenei said the cause for full establishment of justice, removal of tyrannical systems worldwide, strong campaign against enemies of monotheism and mankind, full preparedness for appearance of Imam Mahdi (AS) and materialization of true democracy in a government attributed to the Imam are the most important lessons taken from belief in appearance of the Imam. Leader receives Vietnamese president

Tehran, Oct 21, IRNA -- The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei here on Monday in a meeting with the Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong praised the historical struggle and victory of the Vietnamese people against the US. The Leader added that given the commonalties between Iran and Vietnam, the two states can broaden their ties in all fields. Referring to the resistance and victory of the Vietnam nation as a promising example of the nations struggle against the world arrogant powers, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "The event proved that the nations can overcome the arrogant powers by relying on their courage, resistance, self-confidence, human values and principles." The Leader pointed to the US attempts to dominate the world military, political, cultural and economic scenes and said, "Though today they are equipped with more advanced military armaments, their actual power has not increased since the Vietnam war." The Supreme Leader said, "In the process of the hue and cry over Iraq, the US might manage to achieve some goals in a military movement. However, given that such an approach will end up in increasing hatred among nations towards them and their position worldwide, they would eventually be the loser." Given that it is the most significant duty of all nations to safeguard their national identity, Ayatollah Khamenei warned them against the attempts of the world arrogant powers to deprive them of their national identities and underlined that in the present circumstances, cooperation and unity of the states seeking independence is quite necessary. Expressing satisfaction over the fruitful negotiations held by the presidents of both countries, he said that Iran and Vietnam are in position to upgrade the level of their political cooperation by broadening economic, commercial, technical and cultural relations. At the meeting, in which President Khatami was also present, Tran Duc Luong expressed his satisfaction over meeting the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and praised the victory of Iran's Islamic Revolution and the achievements of Iranian nation. "The people of Iran and Vietnam through reliance on their national independence can oppose the domination of foreign powers and such commonalties provide the grounds for the broadening of multilateral ties," he added. Leader pardons, commutes prison terms of 742 inmates

Tehran, Oct 20, IRNA -- On the eve of the auspicious occasion of birthday of Imam Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance), Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei pardoned or commuted the prison terms of 742 prisoners. The amnesty was granted as per a request from the Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi. Shahroudi had asked the Supreme Leader to approve the amnesty package on the auspicious occasion. Prisoners are granted amnesty or their prison terms are commuted on every auspicious occasion as a sign of Islamic mercy. SS/AH End

Leader expresses condolence on death of Lebanese scholar

Tehran, Oct 20, IRNA -- Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Sunday expressed condolence on death of renowned Lebanese scholar Allameh Hassan Amin. In a message to that effect, the Supreme Leader termed Allameh Amin's death as a great loss to the Lebanese nation and the entire Muslims. The Leader said Allameh Amin was the son of the late Ayatollah Mohsen Amin who have rendered great services to Islam and the infallible household of Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him). SS/RR End

Leader advises armed forces to strengthen their faith

Tehran, Oct 16, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei here on Wednesday instructed military establishments in Iran to equip themselves with strong faith, religious and political insight, and knowledge about internal and external realities so as to get well prepared to defend Iran and the revolution. Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with officials in charge of the ideological-political organizations at the Army and Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics that the ideological-political departments have been established to consolidate the armed forces' faith and augment their religious and political knowledge. The Leader said the departments have gained many successes in cooperation with the faithful armed forces. Ayatollah Khamenei said public trust and popularity of the clergymen are two main assets of the society in order to attain its main objective. He said public trust had been the main reason for nation's alignment with the clergymen in shaping major political developments in Iran's history and in the triumph of the Islamic Revolution in 1979. He added that the public trust originates from the sincere efforts made by religious scholars, dignitaries, and clergymen in a matter of thousand years. The Leader said wisdom and piety would guarantee strong public faith in the clergymen. All officials, clergymen in particular, should fulfill the grave duty of winning their audience's hearts and minds, Ayatollah Khamenei made it clear. He said by the grace of God, Iran's revolution has not been halted in its course despite many ups and downs, shortcomings and hostilities since its triumph. He added that the revolution continues treading its path more vigorously towards its ideal climax.

Leader calls on youth to read Holy Quran on regular basis

Tehran, Oct 8, IRNA -- Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Tuesday called on the youth to read the Holy Quran on a regular basis. The Leader said in a brief statement to the winners of the 19th International Contest on Memorization, Recitation and Interpretation of the Holy Quran that the sacred book is the standard flag of Islam to which all Muslims should make use of in social and personal lives. Ayatollah Khamenei said that the youth should get accustomed to reading the Holy Quran and contemplating on the verses to take them into account as the model for life. The Supreme Leader said that the Holy Quran has put forward the best criteria for Islamic nations urging them to avoid despotism and not to surrender to those who revolt. The Leader pointed to the US as an example of modern tyrant and said that the Islamic nations should resist such tyrants in line with Quranic teachings and take steps to narrow the gap between themselves in obeying the Quranic guidelines. Ayatollah Khamenei said that justice and unity are the lessons of the Holy Quran adding that if justice does not prevail over the Islamic community and there is discord and ethnic differences among Muslims, that's because the Muslims have found distance with the teachings of the Holy book so that they should seek refuge in the Holy Quran. The Supreme Leader said that practicing Quranic teachings brings dignity, power and prosperity for the Muslims adding that the Holy Quran calls for science, insight, piety, sacrifice and kindness.

Leader: Friday prayers, opportunity to explain social issues

Tehran, Oct 7, IRNA -- Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Monday that the Friday Prayers is an opportunity to explain social issues to the people. In a meeting with Friday Prayers leaders, the Supreme Leader gave the guidelines on composition of the sermons of Friday Prayers. "Delivery of sacred expression means conveying the realities and the major issues. It is a heavy responsibility which the Friday prayers leaders should fulfill in accordance with the needs of the time," the Supreme Leader said. The Supreme Leader called on the Friday prayers to take into account the questions of the people from every walk of life especially of the youth in the composition of sermons delivered every Friday. The Leader said that the sermons should help promote public insight on social and political issues with explaining the major political issues and the international developments. The Supreme leader said that the growing presence of Islam in the social and political life has caused a stumbling block for world arrogance adding that the late Imam Khomeini called for integrity of religion with politics which led to establishment of the Islamic sovereignty in Iran and Islamic awakening is gaining further momentum at the international community. Prior to the Leader's remarks, head of the policy-making council of the Friday prayers, Hojjatoleslam Reza Taqavi presented a report on the agenda of the upcoming 17th meeting of the Friday prayers leaders.

Leader: Ethical security, foundation of social security, order

Tehran, Oct 6, IRNA -- Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Sunday offered guidelines to the Islamic Republic of Iran Police (IRIP). In a meeting with IRIP commanders, the Supreme Leader called for respectful treatment of every individual by the police and strong action against those who violate social and ethical standards. The Supreme Leader put emphasis on the need to provide the community with ethical security as the foundation of social order and security. "The people expect the government to provide an atmosphere in which they perform their religious obligations with peace of mind and not to see unethical scenes harming their religious sentiments. So the IRIP is expected to prevent any unethical scenes," the Supreme Leader said. The Supreme Leader said that the situation in the community should be in a way that the youth should not be exposed to insinuation outdoors and called for the strong action by the police to prevent provoking corruption and ethical flaws. The Leader said that social order and security are more important than the problems pertaining to people's livelihood and called on the police to strongly fight any violation of law and order with no exception. The Leader in the meantime underscored the need to respect the privacy of every individual. The Supreme Leader pointed to the western cultural inroad and the conspiracy to eliminate the taboo of sin and said that the police should deal with such conspiracies and protect the atmosphere of purity and piety in the Islamic community. Ayatollah Khamenei appreciated the achievements the IRIP have made in restoring social law and order and said that while the enemies of the nation are making every endeavor to cause different kinds of insecurity in the community, the police force should extend its activities seriously to fight them. The Leader called for clean-up of the IRIP organization and for taking strong action to deal with any corruption within the organization such as bribery. Prior to the Leader's remarks, IRIP Commander Brigadier-General Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf outlined the programs of the police force in dealing with violation of social law and order, especially in the eastern borders of the country. He said that the IRIP have planned to set up regiments of police force along the border areas and the specialized branches of the police fighting different kinds of crimes.

Leader hits out at US bullyings

4:52:51 PM (IRIB) Tehran, Oct 5 - Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei here Saturday hit out at US' anti-Islamic stance and bullying, specially in Afghanistan, Palestine and Iraq, saying it revealed the true face of the West's liberal democracy. "American steps in massacring Afghan people and its recent propaganda ballyhoo to attack Iraq and create another tragedy for the Iraqi people is the tangible result of the West's liberal democracy," he told state officials on the anniversary of Be'that or God's proclamation of Muhammad (PBUH) as his Prophet. "America's blanket support for the occupying Zionist Regime and its reticence in the face of massacre of the Palestinian people as well as its pressure on Islamic countries to recognize this oppressive regime and America's brazen move on Al-Aqsa mosque recently are blatant examples of the West's liberal democracy," he added.

Ayatollah Khamenei added that the world's situation today was very much like the dark age of the Arabian peninsula before Prophet Mohammad's Bet'hat in view of the "world bullies' efforts to portray their actions as right." "Under such conditions, some weak people call to succumb to Imperialist powers since they think it is impossible to change the bitter realities which these powers have created. "The message of Bet'hat, however, is to tackle obstacles and stand against bullying of the Imperialists," the Leader added. Islamic nations, specially the Iranian people, are bravely prepared for any self-sacrifice, Ayatollah Khamenei said. "Now it is the turn of the state officials to show how much they have understood the message of Be'that since this requires to rid oneself of all whims and caprice," he added. President Mohammad Khatami addressed the audience before Ayatollah Khamenei and felicitated him as well as the Iranian nation and the Islamic world on the auspicious occasion. "The sources of all corruption, poverty, totalitarianism and oppression in the world today lie in the fact that human beings have been deprived of listening to God's call," the Iranian president said.
