"What the big powers are currently doing is one hundred percent against human rights. If the world public realizes the extent to which the US media networks are misleading them, the US will no longer remain a superpower," the Supreme Leader said. Leader: seeking Independence, a real treasure for Afghanistan (25.2.2002)

Tehran, Feb 25, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with the Head of the Interim Afghan Government Hamid Karzai here Monday said that seeking independence is, and has always been, a real and rare treasure for the Afghan nation. Ayatollah Khamenei added, "the stronger the proud identity of the Afghan nation would be intermingled with that nation's love for their religion and spirituality, the weaker should be the possibility of the foreigners' interference in Afghanistan's internal affairs. Expressing satisfaction over the existing peace and tranquility in Afghanistan, the leader said, "various Afghan groups, races and tribes should have trust in each other and take full advantage of the current stable status in favor of establishment of a long, lasting and deep-rooted peace in which the advancement and reconstruction of Afghanistan could easily and rapidly proceed." The supreme leader said that the Afghan nation has displayed a long patience longing for establishment of peace and order in their country and the current era is therefore of extreme importance in the history of Afghanistan. Ayatollah Khamenei also expressed hope that the future would be witness to prevalence of peace and tranquility for an unified Afghan nation and Iran's eastern and brotherly neighbor would experience the advancement that it truly deserves. Referring to the tragic martyrdom of a number of Iranian diplomats by the Taliban militants and the various hardships imposed on Iran due to narcotic drugs trafficked form Afghanistan, the leaders said that prevalence of security in Afghanistan and reconstruction of that country is of extreme importance from various points of view for its western neighbor, Iran. Replying positively to Karzai's request for Iran's active participation in the process of reconstruction of Afghanistan, the leader of the Islamic revolution said that the whole world, and particularly the Islamic world should play an active role in reconstruction of Afghanistan. Further elaborating on the same subject, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "yet, no country's participation in Afghanistan's reconstruction should become a pretext for exerting that country's political and cultural hegemony in Afghanistan.' The Head of the Interim Government of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai, in brief, but warm remarks prior to Ayatollah Khemenei's address, while expressing full pleasure over the opportunity to visit Iran, said that the prevailing peace and stability in Afghanistan is the result of selfless contributions of the exalted leader of the Islamic Republic, as well as the Iranian nation and government. Karzai referred to Iran's assistance in fighting against the intruding former soviet's Red Army, as well as assisting the resistance force of the Afghan nation during the despotic reign of the ousted Taliban militants, both of which were of great importance for the Afghan nation. He said, "on behalf of the Afghan nation and government, I would like to appreciate the devoted contributions of Iran's leader, nation and government and to emphasize that we will never forget your selfless contributions." He added that hosting millions of Afghan refugees for two decades was a sign of the existing brotherhood and shared interests of the two nations along the course of their long history, adding, "we hope such brotherly ties and assistance would continue during this sensitive ear of the Afghan history.

Hamid Karzai emphasized that the Afghan nation will never abandon their love for Islam, or their country's independence, which are both so dear to them, now and in the future, and both play a decisive role in Afghanistan's fate. Evaluating his trip to Tehran as extremely important and its results as totally satisfactory, Karzai concluded, "both in order to reconstruct our country, and in order to establish peace and security in Afghanistan, we are in dire need of continuous assistance of our Iranian brethren."

Leader: Islamic Iran Firmly Holds Up Flag of Noble Islam (20.2.2002)

TEHRAN 20.2.2002 -- The Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has cabled a message to the Hajj pilgrims of the Holy Mecca.

The message read, "Once again, we are witnessing the great Islamic event of Hajj pilgrimage, that is the ultimate wish of all Muslim believers and those who seek to follow the path to the truth and the heaven."

He said in the message that in the current year, too, a large number of people from different parts of the world gathered together to attend this divine assembly of Muslims before the holy shrines, adding that drowned in the illuminated environment of worship and humbleness, and the search for salvation and dignity in this holy land that shines in the vast and infinite realm of history is the primary accomplishments of the enlightened travelers, who have an insatiable thirst to join the truth.

"Here, all manifestations of material life, and negligence, deviations, worldly attachments and everything that adorns our appearance are temporarily separated from us, being replaced with a white garb to represent purity and sincerity of our hearts and souls, leader added.

He also said that "A new horizon is opened, wherefrom we are able to see more visibly, hear and understand better the way to the eternal salvation. The blossoms of knowledge and Islamic fraternity, and divinely guidance flourish and appear before our eyes.

Ayatollah Khamenei added here is the great camp of the Muslim Ummah, and the place where Muslims learn how to unite their souls with their beloved. Here is the place, where we free ourselves from the evil and blasphemous spirits, and seek to find our real self and the divine truth.

"From these holy sites, we disavow demons, evils and Satan, as part of our quest to join the forces of Allah, and again and again we renew our covenant of abominate oneness and spiritual grandeur of the Muslim Ummah, he said.

Further in his remarks, leader added "These are the blessings and true concepts of this great Islamic event, that have become more evident than ever at this crucial period of direct confrontation.

"Today, the call of our great prophet and of Islam to justice, freedom and salvation forcefully resonates in our minds ever than before. The pervasive devilish nature of arrogance, oppression and unbridled repression on one hand, and rampant ignorance, superstition, and deceits on the other hand, have made human beings intensify their efforts to achieve peace, justice, and fraternity.

"Today, the call to unity against oppression and the oppressors as expressed in this Qoranic verse "Come to common terms as between us and you: that we worship none but God" (holy Qoran, chapter Al-e Emran; verse 64) resounding in our ears, and the tidings of divine power "and verily, God is most powerful for their aid" (holy Qoran; chapter Hajj; verse 39) brings hope to our hearts, he said.

"Muslims are the first to whom these messages are addressed. Islamic awakening has inspired the whole Islamic world in the East and the West. Islamic enthusiasm has revived and restored Muslims' dignity and pride. The glorious flag of Islam is raised in Iran. The oppressed Palestinian people inspired by Islamic teachings and principles have now frustrated the Zionist ambitions and evil intentions. Our young children in the Islamic countries have entered the battlefields to realize their aspirations in their indefatigable fight against the occupiers and world arrogance. Ayatollah Khamenei added. "Despite all types of accusations and news distortions by the Zionist-led propaganda machine worldwide against Islam and Muslim combatants, Ayatollah Khamenei said the pure Islamic thoughts of our great prophet have been known to all people of the world. Now, everybody understands that Islam is the religion of justice, freedom, salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. Islam is the religion of life. However, life without dignity and liberty is denounced. Islam is the religion of logic and rationalism, although it renounces vehemently a perverted perception suggesting rationality, and used by those who called the messengers of Allah as insane people." He said that Islam is the religion of unity, fraternity and world peace, but it rejects unity with the oppressors. Shaking hands with the murderers over the bodies of martyrs is considered a sheer treason against Muslims. Islam is the religion of realism; however, tyranny can never be justified in the name of realism. Islam has introduced a set of eternal precepts and principles for humankind. Meanwhile, dogmatism and fanaticism are totally rejected. Islam is the religion of innovations and new ideas, but refutes heresy and perverted conception of the religion. Islam is the religion of sacrifice and tolerance; however, submission to brutality and humiliation can never be acceptable. Islam is the religion of civility, science, and development, but it reproaches as barbarism and absolute ignorance the science that is used as a means for the humiliation of mankind and devastation of human civilizations. Islam is the religion of Jihad, but illogical and acquisitive wars are never regarded as jihad. Islam is the religion of dignity, power, and sovereignty, though they are never used as a means to realize certain evil intentions. Islam is the guardian of human rights and nobility. Islam guarantees and protects ethical precepts and moral decency. Islam is the staunch supporter of peace and security. Those who try to depict Islam as a religion against human rights, civility and security, are launching the most ignominious lies and accusations against our religion. These tactics are intended to justify the brutalities committed against Muslim nations, he added. Ayatollah Khamenei added that the Muslim Ummah has now become the target of all kinds of threats and coercion. The unbridled world arrogance led by the United States along with the pugnacious policies of the Zionist regime is taking advantage of the current gap and division in the Islamic world. The heroic uprising of the Palestinian people and the proud banner of Intifada have enraged the arrogant powers, who have intensified their blind acts of repression and retaliations against the Palestinian people. He said, "September 11th attacks in New York have served as a pretext for the coercive policies of the White House, and emboldened the Zionists to continue their savage crimes and atrocities against the Palestinian people. In the aftermath of the disastrous military operations in Afghanistan, the international environment has been increasingly terrorized by the militaristic policies and tough stance of the U.S. administration, posing a serious threat against world peace and security. The rhetoric of the U.S. Administration in fighting against terrorism and defending peace process in the Middle East are only a cover for the hegemonistic plans of the United States to dominate and control the wealth and vital resources of other nations. Further in the message, leader added that "It is a shame that a country with a long record of sponsoring terrorist operations, a country that planned and undertook military coups in many parts of the world, a country with the largest arsenal of weapons of mass destruction, and a country that continues to support the most dangerous terrorists of the world is now going to take the lead in the war against terrorism. It is a total rejection of the truth that killing of women, men, and children, destruction of Palestinian homes, and expulsion of people from their homeland are being committed in the name of defending the cause of peace. "Our Islamic country is accused by the White House rulers of trying to undermine the Middle East peace process. They can never realize that the violation of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, and occupation of their land can never be called a peace, much less to be weakened by another government or a party. This oppressive process is doomed to failure that can be evidently seen in the awakening movement and sacrifices of the Palestinian people, he said.

Ayatollah Khamenei further added that The Islamic Iran is firmly resolute in holding up the flag of Islam as the religion of noble teachings, enlightenment, salvation and liberty. We will never acquiesce in the coercion of the world arrogance. Iran considers terrorism the enemy of human happiness and prosperity. The Islamic Iran has paid a heavy price in fighting against the terrorists who were inspired and trained by the United States and Israel. Our country neither succumbs, nor is frightened by the threats of the imperial-mind powers of the world. Our people and government value their independent policies and position on the solid foundations of wisdom, which is the everlasting reminiscent of our great leader, the late Imam Khomeini. The large demonstrations of Iranian people, marking the 24th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution was a strong response to the baseless claims of those who intend to disseminate seeds of dispute between the people and the Islamic government. The people and government of Iran condemn the threats and warmongering policies of the United States that amply demonstrate the aggressive and barbaric nature of the U. S. Administration. The violent behavior and illogical attitudes of the U. S. decision makers represent the weak and vulnerable foundations of this oppressive arrogant system of power.

Supreme Leader Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei slams US President George W Bush (12.2.2002)

Tehran, Feb 12, IRNA -- Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, in a message on Tuesday evening thanked the great Iranian nation for their spectacular demonstration of unity as shown in their participation in the Feb 11 rallies, marking the 23rd anniversary of the triumph of the Islamic Revolution in the country. He stressed that the presence of the politically vigilant people of the country showed once again their determination to safeguard the ideals of the Revolution and the values of Islam. "This enthusiastic and powerful presence showed to the world how the divine power is keeping this Revolution alive and in such a way that enemies are not able to impose their will," he said. He gave his blessings on those who have answered the call of duty and have played important roles in the service of the nation. "This rally showed your revolutionary and Islamic zeal and demonstrated your love for your Islamic nation and demonstrated your determination to honor and defend the rising flag of Islam," he said. "This enthusiastic and meaningful participation once more demonstrated the eternal power of God Almighty uniting and increasing the will of the nation to defy the theory of materialists and the simple-minded, he added. "Yesterday (Monday), all political analysts from every corner of the world clearly understood the message of your demonstrations and everybody witnessed how the insulting and threatening words of the 'rulers' of the White House received a brave and clear reply from the Iranian nation. "It has been so for the past 23 years and will remain so forever. The Great Satan has by mistake counted the Iranian nation an outsider to the Islamic state although the people have made known to the world their love for Islam, Imam Khomeini and the Islamic state. "The Iranian nation and government authorities have correctly recognized the fate of nations that have become victims of world capitalism and the trick being played by the Great Satan as shown by the accusations it has raised against the powerful Islamic system of government. But its objective has been clearly revealed, that is, to impose its sovereignty over our beloved country Iran in order to materialize its illegitimate interests in this honorable nation's material and spiritual riches. "The US regime has, for years, conducted the greatest terror operations and has achieved the worst that it hoped to achieve with the independent Asian, African and South American countries, has supported the most reactionary and abortive-oriented regimes, has exported the most deadly weapons all over the world, has dispatched to operating theaters its most dangerous terrorists or those whom it has trained, has killed the most number of civilians and has looted the most oppressed nation in the world, the Palestinians, from their most basic human rights and has given the most and to the most inhuman regime in the world, the Zionist regime, had helped the repressive Pahlavi regime stay in power for many years and has treated the Iranian nation in the worst possible manner in the economic, military and political arenas; and now, it is accusing the democratic and liberated people of Iran of taking sides with terrorism, of neglecting human rights and of producing and selling arms! "Let the world know that the Iranian nation and the government authorities have deliberately chosen the path of justice and independence and would insist on this path which they have chosen for, no doubt, these brave and vigilant people would emerge victorious in all fields." The Leader then admonished government authorities that the key to preserving the national interest is through unity and avoidance of differences. Various tastes and inclinations must not give rise to public quarrels or wrangling as this would only make the enemies happy, he said. Lawmakers must pay attention to the real needs of the people, just as as it is the Godly responsibility of the Judiciary to serve the cause of justice and to preserve the peoples' dignity. On the executive and managerial levels of government, he said responsibility must be entrusted to trustworthy officials who will cut the treacherous hands of those who loot government coffers off, whose faith in God and trust in this great and honorable nation are beyond question, and who make sure that God Almighty is always on the side of the doers of good whose Godly traditions would always be there to support them.

People's massive turnout in Monday's rally will be powerful reply to enemies:  Leader (10.2.2002)

Tehran, Feb 10, IRNA -- Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei here on Sunday said that the Iranian people, along with the country's officials, will massively turn out in Monday's rallies and will give a decisive and powerful response to the enemies. Millions of enthusiastic Iranians are to take part in Bahman 22 (Feb 11) rallies on Monday to mark the 24th anniversary of the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Bush, the Supreme Leader said that the remarks are an indication of their frustration in getting their sinister political, security and advertising activities achieved in the Islamic Republic of Iran. One of the objectives of those remarks of U.S. officials is to sow discord among the Iranian people and officials and to weaken the their existing unity and solidarity, the Leader said, stressing on the importance of participating in Monday's rallies. "The rallies will be a proof of the unity and solidarity of the Iranian people and will play a determining and extraordinary role in the country's onward march," Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated. Leader calls for "full preparedness" of armed forces, nation (7.2.2002)

Tehran, Feb 7, IRNA -- Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei here Thursday called on the nation and Iran's armed forces to maintain their "unity, vigilance and full preparedness" in the face of threats from outside. In a meeting with air force commanders and ordinary personnel, he also made a veiled warning to the United States against its recent aggressive stance toward the Islamic Republic which it has accused of forming an "axis of evil" with Iraq and North Korea. "The Iranian nation, in line with their anti-hegemonic attitude, will never initiate an aggression. But, if anybody challenges them or threatens their interests, the answer of the Iranian nation will be strong, making the aggressors regretful," Ayatollah Khamenei said. He slammed Washington's recent vitriolic attacks on the Islamic Republic, saying the US anger with Tehran was due to Iranians' anti-imperial stances. "In America's eyes, the only good and acceptable countries are those which are totally submissive to the US and its expansionist policies," the leader said, adding that such an attitude has led to an international disgust. "It is not only the Iranian nation which hates you, but the whole world and nations detest you as a hegemonic, arrogant, tyrant and hypocritical regime,"
Ayatollah Khamenei said in address to the US rulers. The leader also described world superpowers' claims of defending human rights, democracy and freedom as "deceitful sloganeering." "The main goal of hegemonic powers is to expand their dominance on the world and guarantee their illegitimate interests under the guise of such false slogans. But, this strategy has failed and is not acceptable anymore," Ayatollah Khamenei added. He cited US support of "totalitarian, corrupt and stooge regimes such as the Pahlavi dynasty" which was toppled in 1979 as a proof of the falsehood of America's pro-democracy claims. "They (the US rulers) expect the great Iranian nation and its popular government to act like hand-picked governments and execute America's policies. But, this demand is not achievable," he said. "The Iranian nation hates an interfering government which under the guise of supporting human rights, democracy and freedom, backs the totally anti-human regime of Israel and treats prisoners of war in Afghanistan and elsewhere in that (regretful) manner," the leader said, in reference to US treatment of Afghan PoWs, which has provoked international outcry. He also criticized Islamic countries for their disunity in the face of US rulers' taunts, including President George W. Bush's challenging of Muslims with another medieval Crusade War after the September 11 terror attack on American trade centers. "If the Islamic ummah is threatened with a Crusade War today, it is because of the existing negligence and disparity among large parts of their ranks," Ayatollah Khamenei said. Befort the leader's address, Iran's air force commander, Brigadier-General Reza Pardis, reported on the combat preparedness of the force and said, "The air force, thanks to the reconstruction of its equipment and planes as well as making use of advanced equipment and promotion of its capabilities, is ready to defend the borders of the nation and the Islamic system."
