tehran, may 30, irna -- the leader of the islamic revolution, ayatollah
ali khamenei, here on saturday stressed the importance of tolerance amongst forces loyal
to the islamic government, adding that realization of islamic principles in the society
would help strengthen the bond between the people and their government. receiving majlis
deputies on the anniversary of the establishment
of the islamic consultative assembly (majlis), the leader said that the
legislators should consider the realization of islamic values as their ultimate
goal,
adding ''if the values prevail in the society, no power in the world would be able to
separate the people from the islamic government, or to weaken it.'' such solidarity would
also help the country overcome its problems, the leader added.
ayatollah khamenei said that those departing from the values fall into
two groups. ''there are those who are antagonistic towards the islamic teachings and given
the chance, would move to uproot them. fortunately, this group is very small in
number.
the second group are those overcome by neglect who don't realize that their words and
deeds weaken the very values which form the foundation of the islamic government.''
stressing the importance of providing guidance for those negligent of
the values, the leader said that the forces loyal to the system should adopt a
non-antagonistic approach towrads each other. the goal of the friendly forces in dealing
with each other and even towards the forces negligent of the values, is ''to awaken and to
remove the negligence.''
ayatollah khamenei referred to majlis as ''center of hope for the
nation'' and termed the deputies as revolutionaries, faithful to the islamic
values. ''the
islamic consultative assembly is by far the model assembly amongst the parliaments in the
world,'' ayatollah khamenei added. ''in the current situation where some in the country
see their existence in creating discord and tensions, majlis can be the manifestation of
unity, healing, coordination, honesty, brotherhood as well as of cooperation with the
executive branch,'' he said. referring to differences amongst the so-called right and left
factions as a thing of the past, ayatollah khamenei said that the people, their elite and
government officials unanimously insist on prevalence of islamic values in the society.
prior to the leader's speech, the majlis speaker ali akbar nateq nouri
presented a report on the performance of the majlis over the past two years, adding that
the legislature, per guidelines from the leader, has adopted a cordial working relations
with the executive branch.

coordination committee of the organization of the islamic conference (oic). stating that
the world today is in need of the noble teachings of islam, ayatollah Khamene’i told
the audience that the western ideologies would fail to separate people from the divine

rejected the line of thinking which confines islam only to personal lives and thus do not
see a role for it in political, social and economic affairs.
'to practice islam requires extending its sovereignty over all aspects
of life, and this is exactly what the noble prophet (pbuh) of islam did in establishing an
islamic government.'' the leader also cautioned about the tendency to adopt the
westerners' account of the islamic faith which he said is far from the real teachings of
islam. touching on the history of the western civilizations and cultures, ayatollah
Khamene’i said ''the europeans, relying on western civilization, were the source of
the biggest of wars in the world. they further bear the responsibility for the highest
number of massacres using the instruments of this very civilization.'' ''the western
cultures brought the rule of the colonialism for 150 years during which millions of people
in asia and africa
suffered under colonial rule. ''the advocates of this very culture and
civilization, in collaboration with their domestic agents, kept the iranian
nation, once
leader in sciences, from the caravan of scientific progress for at least 100
years,'' the
leader stressed. the leader called as necessary cultural exchanges amongst
nations. however, he said, the spiritual leaders of the islamic world should not be intimidated by
foreign cultures. ''we must revive the islamic culture and resist the all-out aggression
of the west against islamic culture. it would be the biggest of problems if a nation gets
intimidated by foreign cultures, and this is exactly what we should eliminate in the
muslim world.'' the encroachment of european and american hegemonists is aimed at
replacing islamic culture with that of the west, the leader said, adding that the
promoters of islam should ''embark on a counter-attack'' to frustrate the
aggressions.
touching on the palestinian issue, ayatollah Khamene’i referred to
occupation of palestine and ignoring the rights of palestinians as the biggest of
injustices committed by world powers. ''the world which is ruled by the western
culture,
considers as obscene any defense of the oppressed nation of palestine,'' he
added. ''the
injustice (against palestinians) is committed by those claiming to be defenders of human
beings and their rights. in reality, their utterances about human beings and their freedom
is sheer hypocrisy.''
elsewhere in his address, the leader referred to arts, films, novels
and books as suitable tools for promoting islam and its teachings, adding ''in today's
islamic world, there are numerous artists whom should be employed for the cause of
restoration of muslims' rights and to expose the cruel oppressions of the aliens against
muslim states.'' the leader referred to the oic as a suitable venue for settling
differences amongst islamic states, adding ''the islamic republic of iran being the
chairman of the oic, feels a bigger responsibility in relations to the problems of the
muslim world. ''iran is confident that its expanding ties with islamic countries including
its cordial relations with saudi arabia would bring many blessings to the world of
islam,'' ayatollah Khamene’i concluded.
