tehran, oct. 30, irna -- leader of the islamic revolution ayatollah
seyyed ali khamenei here on wednesday described the struggle against global arrogance as
"a living, eternal and essential symbol of the iranian nation." in a meeting
with students on the threshold of 'aban 13', the national day for struggle against global
arrogance (nov. 3 this year since 1996 happens to be leap year), the leader said: "it
is vital for the iranian people especially students and intellectuals to recognize the
intricate ways of hostility of the u.s. as the great satan and the manifestation of
arrogance." he elaborated on the main characteristics of arrogance as vain
pride,
interfering in other's affairs, dictating terms and belittling others, and said that for
the iranian nation, the above definition of arrogance applies to world domineering powers
which pursue a policy of oppression, tyranny and power politics agasinst iran. "it
was for this reason that the late imam khomeini branded the u.s. administration as the
great satan," he added. "the aggressor u.s. administration, as the symbol of
arrogance, has from the early days of the islamic revolution, tried every trick to stifle
the anti-arrogance slogan, because, so long as these cries echo in iranian skies, the
u.s.
domination over iran and its rich resources will never be materialized again," said
the ayatollah. the leader's remarks were greeted with vociferous cries of god's majesty
(allah-o-akbar) and "down with america" by the students. he said the struggle of
the iranian people against global arrogance means that this nation will strongly resist
the attempts of the enemy to turn iran into a satellite once again. "as part of its
oppressive and hypocritic plots to make countries dependent in this age of modern
technology and telecommunications," said ayatollah khamenei, "washington first
applies intense political pressure and then it puts out feelers for talks. at this stage
it is normal for feeble-minded governments and officials to buckle under u.s.
pressure,
and consequently lose the status and popular support that was earned through
independence." but it is a mistake on the part of american statesmen, he
said, to
adopt such a tactics against the people and officials of iran who are aware of the
realities and have firm faith in spiritual matters.
"as long as the faith, motives and resolve of the iranian people
continues to beat like waves on the political scenes, not only the u.s but 10 other powers
like washington cannot succeed in the struggle against such a determined nation," he
added. islamic iran, vowed the leader of the islamic revolution, will support any
oppressed people around the world suffering from the oppression of global
arrogance, and
for this reason tehran "strongly rejects the treasonous compromising trend in the
middle east so that the world realizes its (so-called peace process) unjust nature."
iran, he added, will continue to unmask and help foil the conspiracies of the
u.s. against
any nation of the world, and in this struggle america is condemned to defeat. referring to
washington's abortive attempts to intervene in afghanistan, iraq and the middle east as
well its attempts to push europe into confrontation with iran and stir up world public
opinion against iran, ayatollah khamenei said that thanks to the iranian people's firm
resolve, the nations in asia, africa and europe today have the highest regard for the
islamic republic and its founder the late imam khomeini. he made it clear that the
u.s.
claim of being invulnerable is nothing but a myth and totally void of reality.

seyyed ali khamenei here on sunday underlined the sensitive responsibility of the army
officer's training college in turning out faithful, skilled, brave and hezbollahi
officers. addressing the graduation ceremony of ground forces officers' of the
college,
the leader said that thanks to the blessings of the sacred islamic system, the latent
talents of the islamic society are blossoming as iran marches on the road to
progress. today, islam iran serves as the model for an independnt, free, and flourishing country
where people trained in the school of islam and the holy quran are paving the way for
progress, he added. elsewhere in his address, the leader touched on the weakness and
inability of the "satanic enemies" vis-a-vis the strength and intelligence of
iran's awakened people, and said the nation has found its own firm way and that no war,
propaganda campaign or economic sanctions can halt the islamic republic's forward
march.
"the dear young population of the country should be ready for a prosperous tomorrow
and should shoulder their heavy duty in the society," the leader pointed out. he
said, "today, the army and the islamic revolution guards corps (irgc) are carrying
out their work shoulder to shoulder. the law enforcement forces are doing their job and
the millions-strong basij (volunteer forces) is active on all scenes in order to protect
the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the islamic republic of
iran."

seyed ali khamenei said here on sunday the martyred student, hussein fahmideh, is one of
the legendary heroes in the iranian history. ayatollah khamenei also termed young basiji
(volunteer) forces as the treasure of the iranian nation. in a meeting with members of the
headquarters in charge of holding ceremony to mark the martyrdom anniversary of martyr
fahmideh, the leader underlined the importance of education for the basij forces.
elaborating on the characteristics of the basijs, the leader said a basiji is one who has
risen up from the middle of the society and who is determined to struggle for the causes
and dignity of his nation and country. a basiji appears on the forefront to defend
external aggression and plays his or her due role in reconstruction arena and in the
scientific area, a basiji is bent on learning science and technology and is ready to teach
others, the supreme leader said. the late imam khomeini is a legendary myth for the
iranian nation for his integrated personality and martyr fahmideh is a young legendary
hero for iranian students and nation, the leader pointed out.

khamenei said here saturday night that consolidation of the islamic identity of bosnian
muslims in the hearth of europe was the outcome of trust in god, reliance on power of
people, resistance against enemies and devotion of muslims in that country. the leader
made the remark when he received reis-ul-ulema of bosnia-herzegovina mustafa
ceric, who
arrived here friday. the leader further stressed that islam will make muslims proud of
themselves in any other part of the world where muslims truely rely on islam. stressing
continued resistance of bosnian muslims and statesmen against the plots hatched by
enemies, the supreme leader said that the enemies who have failed to wipe out the bosnian
muslims, now plan to destroy their cultural identity. countering this conspiracy puts the
struggle of the bosnian muslims in a difficult stage which needs awareness and firm
resolution of the bosnian people, said the leader.
further in his remarks the leader of the islamic revolution emphasized
that the bosnian people should remain in the scene. ayatollah khamenei also advised the
bosnian muslims, the youth in particular, to work to reinforce their spiritual
beliefs.
referring to sensitivity of the iranian nation and government towards the situation of
bosnian muslims, the leader said islam is a immense power which is welcomed by
nations.
the leader however, regretted that most islamic governments have not yet realized this
power. failure to grasp the true power of islam, has given the u.s. a chance to dictate
its policies on muslims, said the leader of the islamic revolution. ayatollah khamenei in
conclusion stressed that turning to islam and reliance on islam gives the muslims both
power and dignity.

seyed ali khamenei said here on tuesday that islam is the standard bearer of book-reading
and that iran is a place where human thoughts reached their climax during post islam
centuries. in a meeting with members of the central council for public culture and the
headquarters in charge of holding the upcoming book week, the leader said islam attaches
high importance to books, reading and writing. the supreme leader said iran where the rule
of islam prevails and which is the standard bearer of islamic thoughts should take the
lead among other countries of the world in promotiion of publishing and reading
books. in
order to attain this goal, ten times as much attention now being paid to books and book
reading should be paid to the issue, the leader of the islamic revolution pointed out.
relying on culture, knowledge, education and books account for the national defence
against the hostility of the arrogant powers, ayatollah khamenei said. elsewhere in his
remarks, the leader recommended the ministry of culture and the islamic guidance to set
aside a major part of its budget to publishing authoritative and useful books on the basis

seyed ali khamenei here on monday put emphasis on the significant role of census in
reconstruction and development planning. in a meeting with officials of the plan and
budget organization and the statistics center of iran, the leader said the government
needs precise statistics and information for programming in line with goals of the islamic
republic in economic, cultural and social areas and for its reconstruction
programs. the
leader recommended that the people offer accurate and precise responses to the census
takers calling at their homes. "i recommend the people to give precise and adequate
response to cansus takers to enable the government to correctly recognize priorities in
programming," the leader pointed out. before the leader's address, vice-president and
head of plan and budget organization hamid mirzadeh offered a brief report on the
forthcoming public census on population and housing due to start from tomorrow. public
census on population and housing is conducted in iran every ten years.

seyed ali khamenei blasted the u.s. support for the latest crimes of israel against the
oppressed and defenseless palestinian people. the supreme leader made the remarks while
receiving a group of people here on wednesday. ayatollah khamenei underlined the need for
unity and coordination among muslim governments and nations to initiate a unified move
against the u.s. and the zionist regime. the supreme leader said that palestine was home
to many historical civilizations and a centre where great divine messengers hoisted the
banner of monotheism. therefore, he added, devastation of this holy land with such a
historical background and installing a sham and fabricated state instead was impossible.
the generation, who surrendered palestine to the zionists was exterminated and the present
compromising generation in palestine is on the verge of collapse, said the ayatollah,
adding that thanks to their familiarity with islam, today's generation in palestine is the
one who intends to do a great task based on islamic teachings which is expected from a

the leader added. ayatollah khamenei also said that the revolutionary and muslim iranian
people is ready to offer any support to the palestinian nation, but the muslim palestinian
nation itself should be present in the scene.
the supreme leader said that causing tension, discord and war is a
satanic move done by the u.s. hands of the u.s. and its satanic allies are clearly visible
anywhere that war, bloodshed and fratricide are underway today, pointed out the supreme
leader. concluding his remarks, the leader said that scores became homeless and a large
number of others killed as a result of the u.s. sowing discord and rivalry among the kurds
in northern iraq, while it is pursuing the same satanic policy in other parts of the
world.

revolution ayatollah ali khamenei on measures being taken in afghanistan under the name of
islam, is the view of the entire world of islam and islamic ummah, said a senior foreign
ministry official here wednesday. "the foreign ministry of the islamic republic, too,
believes that nobody in the world has the right to present as ugly the beautiful face of
islam," said deputy foreign minister for asia-pacific affairs alaeddin boroujerdi
referring to the monday remarks of the leader on the prevailing situation in afghanistan.
boroujerdi added that from the viewpoint of human rights, washington is responsible for
what is happening in afghanistan because it has created such a catastrophe through its
dual approach and should be accountable for it before the international community. the
deputy foreign minister stressed that as a fundamental principle in its foreign policy,
the islamic republic believes in good neighborly relations with all its neighbors
including afghanistan. he expressed hope that by overcoming the present problems,
afghanistan will attain peace and tranquility and that the muslim people of the country
will be able to live in a peaceful atmosphere away from bloodshed and war.

seyed ali khamenei here on monday lambasted the current fratricide and bombardment of
cities and residential centers in afghanistan as a non-islamic move. "the u.s.
support for this group that is unfamiliar with islamic issues is an attempt to confront
the islamic republic of iran," the supreme leader said. in a meeting with friday
prayer leaders on the occasion of their nationwide annual meeting, the leader said
"in the neighbourhood of iran something is taking place in the name of islam and a
group whose knowledge of islam is unkown has embarked on actions having nothing to do with
islam." ayatollah khamenei said the actions being taken in afghanistan are the clear
examples of reactionary and fanatic moves and ignorance ofhuman rights. the world
witnessed how highly the u.s. spoke of the group (taliban) and that not only washington
has not condemned it but on the contrary has been supporting the taliban in its
supprerssion of rivals. "this has clearly proved the falsehood of u.s. claims to be
an advocate of human rights, freedom of women and education," he said. elsewhere in
his address, the leader pointed to the anti-iran propaganda of the media under the
influence of zionism and said one of their goals was to tarnish the image of the islamic
republic of iran in a bid to make the people pessimist about the future of the islamic
republic. but, the leader said that great progress made in reconstruction of the country
has foiled such conspiracies. the leader of the islamic revolution said that islamic
teachings have attracted young people all over the world and this is what the enemies of
islam are afraid of.
