Leader Lauds Role of IRIB in Educating People (31.10.1995)

Tehran Times, TEHRAN The managerial staff of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) here yesterday called on the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei here yesterday. In the meeting, the Supreme Leader said that television functions as a university in view of its role of training, educating and directing the society. He stressed that its primary task is to direct the society on the basis of the true ideals of religion and politics.
Praising IRIB for its achievements in various fields, Ayatollah Khamenei lauded the IRIB personnel for their intensified efforts resulting in better television programs that are more impressive and manage to attract more viewers. Ayatollah Khamenei cited the importance IRIB attaches to such issues as the Revolution, Imam Khomeini, Sacred Defense and the nation's major problems, saying, I am not worried about those issues. He said the IRIB acts as a spokesman of Iran's Islamic system, adding that it shoulders many responsibilities in a world which hangers for religion but is under constant attack from anti-Islamic forces. Admiring the IRIB's efforts to preserve the Islamic and revolutionary values, Ayatollah Khamenei said, the television functions as director, leader and instructor for the society and recalled the sagacious saying of Imam Khomeini that IRIB plays the role of a university in educating people.
The Leader pointed out that the IRIB should disseminate religious teachings and Islamic policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Music is an art and should be used in the service of a virtuous life, the Leader said. The Leader added, the IRIB should teach the public how to avoid extravagance through its programs.
The head of IRIB, Ali Larijani, briefed the Leader of the IRIB's general policy and said that IRIB's programs are produced in conformity with the Islamic and revolutionary values.

Leader Attends Funeral for 600 Martyrs (28.10.1995)

Iran News, TEHRAN - Leader of Islamic Iran, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, yesterday attended the mourning ceremonies and the funeral procession for the 600 martyrs of the 8-year Iraqi-imposed war held here. Streets of the capital were full with Tehranis who came out by the thousands to pay their respect to the 600 men who sacrificed their lives to save Islamic Iran in her hour of need. The martyrs, whose sacred bodies were recently discovered in former battlefields in the west of Iran near the Iraqi border, belonged to soldiers of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) who participated in the initial Valfajr operation as well as in Valfajr-6, Karbala-4 and 5, Muslim-ibn-e Aqil and Zeinulabedin battles. Bodies of the martyrs were carried by the people from Enqelab Avenue to the Martyrs' Me'raj (Ascension) Headquarters on Me'raj Street. A large number of the martyrs were from the provinces and their bodies will be sent to their hometowns to be buried there.

Million-Man March "A Slap by Islam to U.S." (19.10.1995)

Iran News, TEHRAN - The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei says the march held on Monday by hundreds of thousands of black men in Washington was a "slap by Islam in the face of the U.S. and its low moral standards." Speaking in the northeastern town of Babol late Tuesday, the Leader said participants in the march chanted "Allaho Akbar" (God is Great) and other slogans "recalling the victory of the Islamic Revolution" in Iran in 1979. The Nation of Islam which organized the march said more than a million showed up, to call for a "moral atonement" of African-Americans. Meanwhile, Majlis Speaker Hojjatoleslam Nateq-Nouri called the massive march a protest against the ruling regime, racial discrimination and violation of the rights of human beings in the country. ``The chants of `Allaho Akbar' by more than one million human beings put the U.S. and its hegemonic regime in disgrace," he said at the open session of the Parliament yesterday. ``If today those human beings who for the crime of the color of their skin have been humiliated and deprived of their rights for years pour into streets like that and shout `Allaho Akbar' it means the export of the revolution of our illustrious Imam." ``More than one million human beings poured into streets in a place which claims to be advocating human rights and considers itself the champion of the cause of the entire world and intervenes everywhere unjustly under the pretext of defending the rights of human, beings, and staged demonstration against infidelity, domination, dominator and the arrogant government of the U.S."

Leader Meets Ulema and Martyrs' Families (16.10.1995)

Iran News, SARI, MAZANDARAN PROVINCE - On the second day of his visit to Mazandaran, Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, yesterday received the prayer leaders and ulema of this northern Caspian province.
The Leader emphasized that the ulema were the pioneers in the struggle against the former monarchical regime of Iran during 1962-1978 period.
He praised the Iranian nation for their achievements and called on the Muslim people of Iran to actively participate in the reconstruction of their country.
On Friday, Ayatollah Khamenei met with the families of the Martyrs of the Islamic Revolution and told them the war disabled and those who had done divinely-inspired acts of self-sacrifice were the highest elite of human society.
Ayatollah Khamenei arrived in Sari Saturday and was welcomed by hundreds of thousands of jubilant people who had rushed to this city from all over the province to greet him.
