the Iranian government surrender by putting pressure on the Iranian people.

Zionists."
The Leader told the congregation: "I state here in the presence of multitudes of

never bring the Iranian nation to its knees," adding that the massive turnout of the
people for the annual rallies last Saturday, foiled the propaganda campaign of the enemies
who had claimed that the people have become disillusioned with Islam and the Revolution.
Ayatollah Khamnei also said that since the Islamic Revolution in Iran, relies upon the
people, this source of strength is a great privilege for the Islamic system. He said the
inability of the enemies of Islam to mar the image of the Islamic Revolution was because
of the active support of the people on all fronts.
Over two million people converged on the sprawling Azadi (Liberty) Square in western
Tehran on February 11 to show solidarity with the Islamic system and their determination
to counter the plots of global arrogance. The massive turnout, which has become a regular
event every year despite the massive propaganda of the western media, once again nullified
the plots of the enemies of the Islamic Revolution.

that "we could make up for our lagging behind in this respect."
IRAN NEWS NATIONAL DESK TEHRAN (Iran News 02/04/95) - Ayatollah Seyed
Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution, here yesterday referred to the alien
publicity campaign to adversely affect the message of the Islamic Revolution by
disseminating false news against Iran. Addressing multitudes of Friday prayer worshippers
at Tehran University campus on the first Friday of the holy month of Ramazan, the Leader
elaborated on various dimensions of the Islamic Revolution, saying that it is unique in
terms of popularity and also in the way it gained victory, IRNA reported. The Leader
pointed to the Iranian nation's belief in religion and trust in the Ulema, noting that
this feature sparked the people's protests against the shah's regime. The Ayatollah said
the people's participation in anti-shah demonstrations was because the Ulema were leading
the movement. The Iranian nation followed the Ulema and the cleric in the struggle and
still follow them after the culmination of the Islamic Revolution, the Leader said adding
that the revolution is thus unique due to the people's involvement and their faith in
Islam. Those engaged in partisan warfare against the shah's regime admitted that the
revolution's victory was due to the Imam's leadership, the Leader stated.
Elsewhere, elaborating on the features of Ramazan, the Ayatollah underlined the need for
the believers to embark upon self-purification during this holy month. Marking that
Ramazan is the month of Allah, fasting, Islam and purity, the Leader termed fasting a most
effective way to refine the soul and to struggle against minor and major sins. The Leader
then called the people the true owners of the revolution, saying that the Islamic
Revolution became victorious with the will of the people.
On the imperialistic roles played by the U.S. and Britain in plundering Iran's oil
resources, he said that the Americans wanted to exploit Iran's oil, to exercise influence
in the Iranian Armed Forces especially the Air Force and to keep their espionage network
active in Iran, but the revolution put an end to all such aspirations. Terming
Iran-Britain relationship shaky and unstable, the Ayatollah said, "In my
opinion, the
British government should be more cautious in dealing with Iran, and because of its grim
and terrible record in Iran, it should not utter statements that are reminiscent of its
past evil intentions (towards Iran)". He said the Islamic Revolution of Iran returned
the dignity of the Muslims to them. ``The Muslims considered the victory of the Iranian
people as a great victory for themselves," the Leader said, ``It was based on this
belief that the Muslim leaders, Islamic personalities, intellectuals, poets,
artists,
politicians and religious scholars in the Islamic world would have tears of joy in their
eyes when they came to Iran."
He said that developments in Africa and Asia were rooted in this new sense of dignity
among the Muslims. ``The events that are caused by Muslims in Africa and Asia have caused
the Americans and the arrogant powers of the world to be preoccupied and anxious.
Therefore, they refer to Iran as dangerous and opposed to their own interests. They have
found out that the Muslims in Algeria, Egypt, Palestine and Bosnia-Herzegovina are
rising,
motivated by the same feeling created in them by the Islamic Revolution of Iran,"
added the Leader.
Ayatollah Khamenei then said that the pride and dignity of the Muslims today was one of
the results of the Islamic Revolution of Iran. ``Today the Muslim nations in
Asia, Europe,
and Africa are speaking and shouting slogans in support of the Islamic Revolution. They
will uphold the Imam's fatwa till their last breath and this represents the depth of the
strategy of the Islamic Revolution," he asserted.
The Leader then referred to the rumors as propaganda tools that are created in order to
weaken the Islamic Revolution, saying that against no other event has such an intense
propaganda campaign been launched. ``Since the Islamic Revolution of Iran, the powers that
are against the Islamic Revolution and Islam, such as the governments of the U.S., Britain
and the usurper Zionists who are pawns of the U.S., have launched a massive and mighty
propaganda campaign against Islamic Iran," said Ayatollah Khamenei.
He then lambasted those who are the proponents of human rights and said that they were
involved in fraudulent exercises. ``The enemies of Islam brand the execution of
professional drug traffickers in Iran as violation of human rights while they call the
defense by their country of the people of Palestine terrorism inspired by Iran," said
the Leader.
Elsewhere in his sermon, Ayatollah Khamenei attacked what he called ``dependent news
agencies" for not reporting the truth. He said: ``The dependent news agencies in
their propaganda against Iran use false and incorrect information. They want to take
revenge by the imperialistic regimes such as the U.S. and Britain on the Iranian
nation.
They are the enemies of the people of Iran and think that they have every right to take
their revenge," because the interests of the Imperialists are not respected any
longer.
