leader appoints interior minister acting commander-in-chief (5.2.1994)

tehran, feb. 5, irna -- leader of the islamic revolution ayatollah ali khamenei in a decree here saturday appointed interior minister ali mohammad besharati as acting commander-in-chief in the law enforcement forces. according to the decree, the appointment is made for a period of three years. the leader expressed hope that with the full authority delegated to besharati he would be successful in his new post.

ceremony commemorating martyrs opens with leader's message (3.2.1994)

tehran, feb. 3, irna -- with a message from the leader of the islamic revolution, ayatollah ali khamenei, a ceremony commemorating the martyrs of the islamic revolution was held at behesht-e zahra cemetery in southern tehran thursday. a large group of people and foreign guests now in iran to take part in the revolution victory celebrations packed the cemetery to mark the occasion and pay homage to martyrs. in his message, ayatollah khamenei paid glowing tribute to martyrs who he said preferred the defence of their islamic homeland and rule of quran to worldly life. "no country or nation has been able to get rid of foreign domination which is the worst type of humiliation for a nation without the self-sacrifices of his best children," the supreme leader said his message. the message, read by head of the shahid (martyr) foundation hojatoleslam rahimiyan, called on the iranian youth to be actively present on other scenes such as reconstruction, campaign against arrogant enemies' propaganda and national unity and solidarity. the ceremony was held on the third day of ten-day-dawn celebrations named as the day of martyrdom and devoution.
