Pres. Khamene’i’s Message
to Islamic Labour Seminar
March, 1, 1983
“Islam Attaches Value to Both Worker and Work”
The third Islamic labour law seminar, comprising of representatives of
Islamic societies and councils from across the country, was convened in
Teheran on March 1, 1983.
A Message from President Khamene’i was read at the opening of the
seminar.
The message commented on the role of the workers and stressed that
labour laws should be in complete conformity with Islamic edicts. The
message also said that the Islam attaches divine value to both the worker
and work.
President Khamene’i’s message emphasized that tools engaged in working
as well as innovation are the weapons which can be utilized for the
benefit of the Revolution and against the anti-revolutionaries, here or
abroad. The message further said that undoubtedly the U.S. expansionist
government and other lackeys of superpowers are disappointed when they
witness the great wheels of our industries in motion. After the conclusion
of the President'» message, Ayatollah Karimi, representative of Imam
Khomeini in the Economic Council, said in his speech that if we do not
adopt and conform with Islamic labour laws then we have dishonoured the
martyrs and disregarded the objectives of the Islamic Revolution. Labour
laws, he said, should be based on Islamic principles and not on the
European systems. Continuing, he said we must formulate labour laws in
accordance with the Qur'an and other religious hooks so that the neglected
rights of people are restored. This seminar is scheduled to last for three
days, and on the final day, a resolution will be issued.
